ive got a small fountain for a dipstick (video)

ight i  went and replaced my booster.. i think it was a  leaky vacuum line connection, but  anyway..

it didnt help. but what does help is to pull the tube off the valve cover. soon as youdo, oil in  the dipstick tube goes down. either those intake tubes  are plugged, or its still blowby/vacuum huffin  into the crank.

i just vented the PCV hose to atmosphere and it solved the prob :/

I'm thinking that's you next place to look..  If it were blowby it should make no difference whether or not it's hooked up..

Drill out the restrictors in the intake manifold.

Drill out the little holes in the bottom of the intake Manifold?  Or drop the intake and drill somewhere else?  What's a guy to do?  And how do you keep the shavings out of the system.  Shop vac after drilling is done?

ORCoaster you crack me up. yes his post is a big vague, but when i looked down in the tubes i did see something that looked like it could come out of there. and now that i'm vented to atmosphere i
1.) can hear the happenings of the engine a bit louder now, and its a tad annoying and
2.) a fine white smoke comes from under the hood at stoplights ... kinda fun but getting old fast. plus it's stinky

so i might be interested in this drilling thing, assuming he responds to your call for clarity

WDK, does your intake have 2 nipple ports where the hose from the valve cover connects ? Hose is 'supposed' to branch into a T - then plugs onto those intake nipples.

Maybe those nipple ports are clogged.

With those low comp numbers - more than likely its blow-by causing the dipstick fiasco. A good operating PCV system should handle most of it.

burren (haha) yeeeah i know.. thats what i suspected, but  i had hopes  on the "vacuum leak causes  the vacuum pump to over delievr and charge the crankcase" idea. it did T, and  i think  its possible that the little holes are cloggy, but i  think given all the white smoke from the PCV hole its likely excessive blowby. but, im rollin 44 mpg with no missin so..  ima just..  stay with the trick smokin  hood for now

my engine is fairly healthy and it has breather smoke at idle at night. not visible in the day time unless you just raced a honda.. lol..

and being that your car is a super early mk2, wouldnt it have a mk1 style air box? i swear the later/better style air box didnt come till like 87 or something?

Are you meant to be able to remove your dip stick with the engine running? Is your oil level too high, and reaching the tube?
Valve cover venting/mesh could be blocked making things worse though.
Haveing said the first thing,  my Quantum dipstick has not got a rubber seal any more and I don't have an issue

some dip stick tubes stick down past the full level, and almost touch the bottom of the pan.. so it would have to have pumped out a good couple quarts before the oil level is under the dip stick tube.

any of you guys ever notice how a 1.5D has no dipstick tube? yea, well, those felt seals between the dipstick and block really dont stop much oil. it took me DAYS to figure out that my dip stick was leaking oil every time i got on the boost..

haha No Mark, what happens is .. the dipstick tube slowly rises up like a fountain.. and eventually spills over. if i remove the tube coming off the valve cover, it drops back down. with the tube off of the valve cover, white smoke puffs out the hole. if i cover the hole with my hand, my dipstick tube will then launch oil in my face (really)

it's .. a big black rectangular box with a filter inside, and it attaches to the intake manifold, which has the two tubes i capped off running into it, then the head. here i'ma go make a few pictures hang on
