VE pump accelerator shaft O ring size
« on: November 15, 2010, 03:11:20 am »
I've searched here, I've googled, I've downloaded manuals and part's suppliers catalogues, I've numerous part numbers....

Bosch 9 461 610 414
Zexen 146600-0100
DTP 40-1100

But all i want is the dimensions of the o-ring on the throttle shaft - I had a bag but the number on the bag doesn't help either.

6mm x 11mm

Yep - I found that via google as well. not sure its right? That would mean a 2.5mm cross section.

6mm x 11mm

Is that supposed to mean the inner measurement is 6mm and the outer 11mm? That sounds about right to me.
'82 Rabbit, I put on a euro vnt-15, 2.25" DP, 2.5" exhaust, the result.....it whistled.

I removed the turbo, made a toilet bowl 2.5" DP, the result....it was deafening. Now it has a homemade muffler up front and a thrush in the rear, the result.....less loud.

Yes. The question came up before and that's the size of the O-ring in the Bosch kit.

Ok - I bought a bag of 200 seals (minimum quantity)

They are WAY bigger than what comes out of the pump, the 6 mm bit is fine but the x-section (2.5mm) is massive.
Try and fit one and it's a huge battle, and normally they tear or nick on the way in and leak even worse.

So, has anyone actually got 6 x 11 x 2.5 orings that they are using successfully and if so, how do you get them in?

Just had a thought- I've not actually measured mine, maybe they are not what is written on the bag...

My stuff is just a little too packed away to 3x check at the moment, maybe I'll dig it out tomorrow if I have a few minutes.

Did you also replace the bushing? I tried a new seal on an old bushing back when I was chasing leaks with no luck because the bushing takes a nasty egg-shaped wear pattern. And if you did replace the bushing, does it have a generous taper on the underside to accept the O-ring as you insert the shaft? (Bosch brand should be OK, but Chinese parts could be questionable).

In this part we don`t know there is made, Chinese can write any on box and because Bosch in Germany don`t made pumps I don`t belive they made O ring or seal.

I've tried several different pumps all with original worn bushes.

It's not a case that they leak once fitted, more that they are so tight that the throttle shaft needs to be pressed in with a clamp, and once fitted is very stiff

I measured several used ones and they were all slightly over 6mm I/D with a sub 2mm cross section - typically 1.8 - 1.9 mm allowing for some deformation in use would be around the 2mm.

I've not noticed much lead in taper on any of the bushes, four on the bench last night - all the same.

New throttle bushings are available. Go to any Bosch fuel injection shop with your pump p/n and they can order you a new one. If you do that, please post the p/n of your pump, the bushing and how much you pay.

Damn Damn Damn! (As Florida Evans would say).

I f'd up for sure. The bushing bore is 10mm. Being such an old thread, I'll not attempt to conjecture what I was thinking.

I went out and picked through the leftovers from a few Bosch kits and I have that O-ring, so to make things right, I'll happily send it off to you, if you can manage a week or so downtime. PM your address if interested.

A Bosch fuel injection shop told me a new o-ring will not stop the leak if the bushing is worn.
