NXT Boost Controller is 20$ on Ebay without the ghetto DIY look

You can eliminate the metal line all together by using banjo/barb fittings.
Mine looks more or less the same, I guess that is a bit cleaner but Id say thats pretty ghetto for 20 bucks. Since mine did cost about 10.
and on a side note. The bleeder hole isnt really nessesary unless your running over 20 to 25 psi. Ive ran mine on levels up to 20psi without the hole and it doesnt stutter, it holds even.

the hole works better when you are running lots of boost. i couldnt get my controller to run consistently without the hole, but i was running it at 30 psi..

How is his mbc any more "ghetto" than the ebay one? It's the same thing but at least he built his himself.

usually bearings are the last things to fail..
catlin has 430k kms on his engine, still runs great.
really, i wouldnt worry about a full rebuild unless there is something seriously wrong..

I have 310,000 on mine, no issues to speak of other than somewhat higher than normal oil consumption.

It's smaller and doesn't look like a plumbers parts bin mock-up

I'm all for DIY but the ball/spring type boost controllers gives better spool than the bleed-type ones.

Koady, check the compression if its within spec leave it, I've had many AAZ with over 300K on them and drove them hard, pushing over 20PSI all the time and never blew on up.
And like Kevin said, my TDI is over the 430K mark now and running strong.
What you need to do to make nice power is new Headgasket, ARP head studs, a good flowing turbo, and a Giles fuel pump and you'll be able to keep up with me...hell you'll be faster then!

no.. mk1 cars in stock form, against a mk2 in stock form.. there isnt even a doubt in my mind whats gonna happen. the only way the mk1 is gonna win, is on the drag strip.
mk2 cars have much nicer interior, and are much stiffer cars to begin with. my mk1 feels flimzy, and handles like a CADDY.. and in my eyes, a 1500# car should not handle like a land barge..

power-to-weight ratio my friend

Handling needs modifications, totally agree on that one! I've had several mk1, 2, 3 and 4s. Each has their own benefits/downsides.
