I also forgot to add that my FI pump does not have the annaroid (sp?) on top. This engine came NA and all I did was add the turbo. I did not upgrade the pump but I did have the flow rate increased and changed the nozzles to pop at 155 bar. Is it absolutely necessary to have the other type of FI pump?
I also don't have an inter-cooler (yet) because it hasn't been above freezing in over a month. But I would like to add one at some point. And if I increase the boost I know that will affect the exhaust temps.

If you don't have the LDA (a "turbo" injection pump) you wont be adding fuel at higher rpm and by turning up the fueling you will be burning heaps more fuel on average. You're running rich for sure without an LDA.
That would be rich only during acceleration as steady state the fuel level is not affected by the LDA - that is to say, the amount of fuel injected regulated the amount of power and engine rpm.
That is a 1.9 AAZ NA/ Non turbo engine you got there..
Take another look... that is an oil return on the back of the engine. The engine was designed for a turbo. These are photos from before the install of the turbo. I have been driving it with the turbo for the past 3 weeks. The person who installed it didn't want the expense of adding all of the extra hardware.
I took another look and you didn't post pics of the engine code OR the pics of the turbo installed.
So ya your earlier pics are of a NA engine, wither it was designed for a turbo or not doesn't matter. T
You also didn't bother to mention the previous owner didn't want to add the turbo bits now did ya? :? :lol:

Wow, an NA 1.9. I never knew they even made one. It even has the NA pump. It was an industrial engine only, and never made it into any vehicles to my knowledge.

It is definitely more fun to drive, but it's sucking too much fuel. That's why I'm here to glean some knowledge and experience from all of you fine blokes!
As it drives now, it's fine until I get on the freeway. I have it leaned out so that it tops out at around 80-85mph on the flat. I have been playing with the fuel and even an eighth of a turn puts it into a whole different kind of driving experience. It does not seem to use that much more fuel with the added turn and power increase. My thinking was if I got more boost all the way around that it would use less fuel. But, like someone pointed out already, when there is boost it needs more fuel and kind of looses power on long hills/upgrades. That of course is on the lean setting. The stock setting of the turbo diaphragm never gets more than 6psi. If I give it the extra bit of turn for the fuel it goes like a wild fire!
So, 20psi... that is the upper limit of my guage... I am just wondering how I would need to adjust the fuel (i.e. more or less)?

In Canada, the Transporter used a NA 5-cylinder.
