Big nozzle time but... R520 or hold out for Bosio 5 hole...
« on: February 20, 2007, 06:16:33 pm »
I know there has been a mention here...and also some talk over on TDIclub and through the loom in general that Bosio will be coming out and introducing a 5 hole nozzle here in the next month. I talked to Charlie at KermaTDI tonight and confirmed this as well that within the next month, 5 hole nozzles will be available. He didn't have any specs on what would be coming out, etc. though.

So...my question...saved and saved...wait til the time was right and with a portion of my tax return this year I can finally get a set of nozzles that will really bring the mTDI motor I rebuilt last winter/spring and installed in the 79 MK1 this spring/summer up to its full potential. I had always wanted R520's...but now I'm wondering... should I wait to see what the 5 hole nozzles bring? Could we see something larger, with more flow and power potential than even the R520?

The plan is def. to at least move to the R520 and rebar the injectors to 280bar ... he doesn't have them in stock at the moment either...so question is... is it worth it to hold out too...

Man...decisions... LOL...  Anyone heard anymore details on the 5 hole units...

If those new 5 hole injectors are in facet even more bad ass why not go with them your not driving the car now anyways right? I wonder how much more expensive they will be. I was thinking why not bring the breaking pressure of the tdi injectors down so its a little bit closer to an idi if your using and idi pump. But then again maybe it needs an extra 100 bar opening pressure so it will atomize fuels better. Wouldnt the injector pump work less hard if we brang down the opening pressures (so most of us dont snap plunger heads)? Sorry for hi jacking a bit but i think i would wait to see some onfo and then order :D

I think they are 6 or 7 holes current nozzles are 5 holers.  I would wait if you want the most bang for the buck.  Are they going to cost a premium over the r520's?  If so then the gains might not be worth it.
Waiting for a bigger better diesel to come along.

Like Slave2School said, the standard TDI nozzles are 5 holes. I spoke with Charlie about the 7 hole nozzles. R520s have been out of stock for a long time, but R520s and the new 7 holes will start production not too long from now... guessing 1-2 months. I'll pick up a set or few of 7 holes as soon as they're available.

What is your power goal for your m-TDI? 7-holes may be nice but they may also be more expensive...

my bad, I thought they were some sort of "enhanced" 5 hole nozzles, not alot of detail out there on them as of yet. I'll have to see. I spoke to Charlie last night as well and he let me know that they are currently "out of stock", so I'd be waiting...but I want to get my order in as well. So...we'll see here. Its a decision to make :)

As far as the pump...and breaking pressure. Stock bar on my current 1z/AHU injectors and the Sprint 216's I'm running is 190bar if memory serves me correctly. With the additional nozzle size of the R520's, I'd def. want to jump the bodies up to around 280bar or so to really make them work nicely with my 12mm pump which is DI specific. I should have bumped them to at least 220bar with the 216's as it is...but I never ran the car ALOT and IMO, its alot of work for the pump. I think it'll like the higher breaking pressures once the R520's are installed.

I'm not running any sort of a hybrid IDI pump, def. not the pump route I wanted to go and I wanted something I felt better better and had to try as a "first" anyways. Which was the use of the Cummins 4bt pump in the car and Karl Mullendore and I, on this side of the pond were the first ones to get them up and going from what I have seen any detail on. Its as of late you've started seeing alot more of them due to the detail in the engine build thread I had and just standard inquiry. Karl is even making/selling them now. Wish I had the cash to back me up in that venture! Could have made some money!

Anyways... power goals... well Malone, you know how the motor is built...it'd probably easily stand for around the 200hp mark if I wanted...though, in an MK1, that kind of power/torque would be insanely useless....to a certain degree.
Either way....options. I'd be interested in seeing "what" the new nozzles will be all about and whether they will indeed outperform the R520, etc. Without more info and pricing...makes the choice hard at the moment. Though...suppose the money can burn a hole in my pocket for a month or so...   :)

When I have write for the opening pressure of nozzle, it is for the pilot injection 1Z 190B and ALH 220B, the opening presure of the main injection is towards 300B.  (ALH 220/300B)

I found  information on Peugeot boxer 2.5 tdi 200/425B

Certainly interesting to increase the pressure, but for the reliability of the pump???
