Hey guy’s
The new 1.6 Td is running good but saw a few issues on the last outing with her. The Egt’s are higher than I like. I noticed it when I am on the power (low to mid rpm range (no tach)) and climbing hills. Had to back out of the throttle when she hit 1200 F pre turbo. I have an intercooler that I know will help but haven’t had time to hook it up yet.
The motor: brand new bearing andbored with oversized pistons. Head redone with new guides, seals, and valve job.
Also I have blocked off the blow off valve, advanced the pump and turned up the pressure on the wastegate to open at 17 psi and rebuilt the turbo. Could I have the pump too far advanced? I advanced it .042” (1.05 mm). I haven’t turned up the fuel screw yet either, figured that would hinder not help.
Any ideas?
Also I think I have read that I shouldn't go over 1200 deg F pre turbo correct?
Thanks,
Matt
1400+ is about the range where you should try not to let it stay too long. I think it's supposed to be over 1300 stock.
Yes. Temps should be cooler than that post turbo.
If you still have stock exhaust that is a big egt problem, as well as bring the max boost to about 25psi, and hook up that intercooler. Then you will need more fuel...
Oops, should have mentioned the exhaust. 2.5" mandel bend all the way back, no muffler.
Also is 25 psi too much for stock head bolts?
Are you still using the stock down pipe?
No.
Nope. 2.5" from turbo down to Stainless flex pipe back to 2.5"
Are you still using the stock down pipe?
Bump the Psi and report back. You shouldn't have ANY egt concerns with an exhaust like that on a stock fuelled pump.
