How to pull the head off a 1.6D ??
They are very easy.
Drain coolant.
Pull timing cover an remove cam bolt, break pulley free and remove.Remove timing belt tensioner and stud.Unbolt inner timing cover from head.I usually line it up at TDC before removing the belt,it's easier going back together
Remove air cleaner,rocker cover,injector lines,glow plug feed wire,hoses,unplug sensors,etc.
Unclip exhaust, remove head bolts, and lift head off engine.
Use a 1.9L HG and new bolts too.

could you elaborate for us slow kids- is there an advantage to using a 1.9 gasket?
it gains you 300cc's of displacment.
woot!, I better use two next time and have a 2.2 litre!
More seriously, 1.9 HG is metal and a lot of the guys building engines on here use them all the time on the 1.6s as insurance against blowing a HG.
that is good to know. Can anyone recommend a source for purchase? Does that change anything else- such as head bolts? Does it change the torque spec for the head bolts, or is it just a swap of one part for another, and assemble as normal?
What does this part swap do to your compression/horsepower/torque? Any further info would be appreciated?
I'm trying to achieve the level of knowledge where I've got just enough to be dangerous, but that's a long ways off yet
