I experience occasionally bad surging the truck acts like it is not getting fuel. When the surging starts I can accelerate and it will stop or back off and it will stop. Happens in any gear but mostly in the lower gears. The person that installed my mtr had a lot of trouble getting fuel to the mtr to get it to run. I don't know what he finally did. I have found a fitting laying loose that came from the injection pump so I think he had changed it. What size should the fitting from the fuel filter to the pump be. This one looks like it is the same size as the injectors 3.5 mm seems small to me. Any suggestions appreciated.

Loose injection pump bolts can definitely cause this, in particular the one under the injector lines.

Check the IP bracket bolts--my brother was experiencing this on his car, and when we took things apart we found that two of the IP bracket bolts were loose. Haven't gotten that car back on the road yet, but I have run the pump in my car, and it's fine, so check your brackets.

I had exactly the same problem after installing the Giles pump on my AAZ (in a Caddy). I started by blaming Giles, but now publicly confess that I was wrong. I, yes, I, forgot to tighten the mounting bolts.
No surging now.

Also on the list of things to check are worn cvs. If the joints have too much play it can cause surging in lower gears.

The surging problem turned out to be the accelerator cable. While the grommet was in the bracket on the pump the cable housing was moving or not moving. One of the clips to hold the cable was left off. The new cable I got a threaded cable and nuts to hold the cable in the bracket.

What did you get for a cable?

I bought it on e Bay thru Autozone and paid $13.00 for it. Way better cable as far as mounting than the stock one.

I always start by blaming myself, and then when I am sure I didn't **** up I move on to blaming others. Lol
