FS 1997 TDI part out and a bit of random garage junk
« on: September 02, 2013, 07:27:28 pm »
Up on the chopping block this time is a 97 Jetta TDI. It was running fine but the clutch was messed up so I had to start it in gear. I really only tested it in 1st gear. I did not get the codes off of it. I'm pretty sure that this car had 480k on it. Cylinder walls looked great, head is in good shape, very little oil in the IC but the exhaust was very wet with oil. I'm assuming it's the turbo exhaust side.

We'll start with some random junk

2x T3 One is seized solid (I haven't tried very hard) and the other has too much in and out and up and down play. $50 each or both for $80. The up and down one is missing a downpipe stud, otherwise everything is in good shape.

1.6 TD timing cover $10

1.6TD/AAZ/AHU/1Z oil piston squirters. I have quite a few sets of these - $20 for 4 with hardware

MK3 AAZ k14/T2 downpipe piece. It will work on a mk1/2 with a T3 or K24 as well. $20 sold

1.5/1.6 vacuum pump - $10 Keyway has quite a bit of wear. Best used for parts.

TDI injectors - $85 SOLD

Intercooler piping - $25 SOLD

Intercooler - $40 SOLD

TDI Injection lines - $50

ECU - $100

Airbox - $20

Cleaned Intake - $65 sold

Cylinder head - I measure 0.002" warpage. max spec is 0.004" Comes as pictured - $400

TDI pump - Didn't appear to be leaking - $225 sold

AHU/1Z injector hold down clamps $15

Motor mount 1H0 199 273D - $20

If you need something that's not mentioned just ask, I probably have it.

Rods are sold. Pistons still need a wash and the crank is $100. If you drive down you can have the block for $5. It's bare and you'd have to go searching the scrap bin for the main caps.

It ran just fine in first gear. That's all I know though.

Regarding the TDI intake:

My friend says her 2003 Jetta TDI can't get above 75mph and is sluggish. The car has ~190,000mi and I suspect the intake is clogging/clogged.

1) Does the OBD show a specific code when the intake is clogged?

2) Will the intake above fit her engine (I don't have the block ID).

Thanx,
TD

From what I've read (and what happened on my dad's 2002 wagon), a clogged intake / runners will not throw a code, generally speaking. The performance will just be awful, for no apparent reason. If the intake has not been cleaned before, I would bet money it's clogged--they ALL clog at some point. And no the intake will not fit, as a 2003 motor  should be an ALH, which has the intake facing the other way.

Thanks for the info.

I'm 3hrs away from the car, but that's what I seem to recall about the intake.
