still to cold for motor oil...
« on: February 03, 2013, 12:31:41 pm »
Just an fyi lol 5 degrees celsius is still to cold to run a motor oil and diesel mix..

Fml. I had some motor oil (clean) given to me that the person never used. Being that i had roughly 35L in my tank of fresh overly additivated diesel.. I figured <10L of 5w and 10w  mixed with atf would be no big deal..

Oh how wrong!!

Hmm it would almost appear that i have an air leak... If i leave my small electric pump on to fill the filter i can start and run it at a high idle alright un til it drains the filter.. I can see the IP pull it fast from the filter and then get swept with bubbles. Look like the ol fuel system needs an overhaul..

The car will run.. It will just quickly deplete its available fuel supply and then die because of air bubbles.

So i recant, not to cokd for the mixture to run. But too cold for MY fuel system to pull it from the tank..

This fuel filter does have like.. 40k or more and like 4 years on it.. :( dohh

where would you be getting a leak pre-filter? At the firewall connection or the tank? Not many places to trouble shoot.

So basically here is my story, I am 22 and when I got this car at 17 I half-assed everything ;) Whatever, I was 17-19.. Now that I am older and exponentially more experienced, I am trying to clean everything up.. but it can only happen so fast to a daily driver I need on the road.

I have ran motor oil before (hence my confidence to dump this in my tank) in the colder weather, but I think my fuel filter is all sorts of plugged up.

It's so hard to relate to how cold it is there. I think the coldest I ever felt was +20F, when I was skiing. I live where the average is about +50-52F, and it's usually nice during the day. Our lowest this winter was +33F. If you're ever in these parts, you're welcome to wrench in my driveway & I'll fire up the 'barbie'.

"....exponentially more experienced....."
Humble as well, eh? :P

Hey, don't any of you Mk. I guys ever put a 200 watt magnetic heater on those steel fuel tanks? I used to do that a lot in cold winter when I had that vintage of junker. THAT is one thing I really miss about those earlier cars. It don't work too well wiss these plastic tanks........

I'd siphon as much as possible out the filler neck, dump a buttload of PS911 in the remainder and warm the bottom of the tank with a 400W heatlamp.

(And change the filter, duh. 4yrs?)
