FS: TD turbo k03
« on: December 07, 2011, 05:05:40 pm »
For sale is a ko3 from a mk3 AAZ td.  there is some shaft play.  My wife bought this for me for our anniversary off thesamba.com for my car but I have a mk2 1.6 and need something with a trapezoid flange.  Turbo looks like it may have been apart at one time for service.  Like I said, my wife bought it and gave it to me recently and I'm just trying to get our money back.  $120 shipped obo in the lower 48 or trade for a k14.  Exhaust manifold and oil feed line included.

That looks like an AAZ turbo, if it's 028 145 708 R it should be from a 96-97 1.9 TD not TDI.

It's 701 R.. so what does that make it?

She is a keeper!

That's how it was clocked when I bought it.

that looks like ALOT of side play.. looks like a substantial amount of clearance between the compressor, and the housing..

I didn't know you could visually inspect shaft play.  There is some play.  I don't know how much tho.  As with any used turbo I would rebuild and reseal it.

I'm sorry I meant 701 R not 708 R, my mistake. That turbo fits 96 and 97 1.9 TD engines. They weren't sold in the US, most likely it came off a Canadian car. It's ok if there's a little side to side play in the shaft but it shouldn't move in and out. if it does that it's in need of rebuilding.

Side to side play cannot be measured off the motor properly. As has been stated previously in another thread, the bearings fill up with oil and take a lot of side-to-side play away from what seems like a TON when the turbo has been off a motor for a while.

I don't know, we cannot tell for sure from a picture how much there is anyway. But with any old turbo, a rebuild is a 50/50..

Up here in Canada that turbo would fit 92-95? Passats and 93-98 Jetta/Golfs. All you will need for this to work on your MK2 is a custom oil drain, an adapter plate for the downpipe (or a mk3 K03 AAZ downpipe) a smaller charge hose to intake manifold and a smaller hose from the airbox to the turbo. and exhaust manifold (thanks ilikevwdiesel)

I have the exhaust manifold for it if anyone is looking. two of them.

I just built a nice dp for my mk2.  I just don't feel like making another for the different flange even though I could sell mine.

Thanks for everyone's information, I will change the title in the post to reflect the correct application.
