Wheel clearance + opinions
« on: April 20, 2011, 06:33:05 pm »
I have 2 sets of wheels. Stock rims with almost bald tires or aluminum offset rims with pretty meaty wide rubbers on them.

The issue is that the larger black rims & tires rub the front fenders. one side more than the other.
The passenger side rubs well before full lock steering either way. I recently replaced that fender. Could i have somehow given it less gap with how i put it on? i matched the body lines as best i could ... i didn't think it would make such a big difference.

Does anyone recommend just hammering the fender wells lip flat... because that's what i feel like doing...

Pics for good measure.

Eastwood and other companies sell a fender roller tool which bends and flares the fenders edges

My rabbit had one fender that sat closer to the tire and, of all things, it was a replacement fender installed by the PO.

I just pulled out on it and got things evened up.

I think over on the vortex I saw pics of a homemade fender roller. If you're that close what happens when you're turning and hit a bump? Wouldn't it take out the fender?
'82 Rabbit, I put on a euro vnt-15, 2.25" DP, 2.5" exhaust, the result.....it whistled.

I removed the turbo, made a toilet bowl 2.5" DP, the result....it was deafening. Now it has a homemade muffler up front and a thrush in the rear, the result.....less loud.

You can rent fender rollers in the states anyway. This question is pretty much the only thing I use whoretex for aside from the classifieds. Are those wheels 14's from an e30 with 195 or 205 rubber on them? Do you know the offset?

Looks like the tire says 195/60r15   You could get a 195/40r15 and see if the lower height would help you. Those look pretty big :D

I run 195/60 15's om BBS rims, mk 2 Jetta and don't have any problems. They're the right offset for a Volkswagen. I do have bigger springs in the back, but stock springs in the front. There isn't room for any more tire than it's got though.

... I have like six inch springs. Not stock at all. I'll have to roll them or go down a size. These rims appear to have at least a half inch of offset maybe more.

the coolness of your dub is measured by the dents and scratches on your oil pan.
