Source for .040" over rings?
« on: March 17, 2011, 07:23:35 pm »
I'm building 1.6N/A. The cylinders are pitted so I'm boring .040" over. I've decided to go with Prothe's pistons but I'm not going to screw around with the rings that come with them.
Anybody have a source for German rings? (Goetz, Mahle, etc)

thanks!
Jory

Last person who was on a search for these found them at:

http://www.vwdieselparts.com

But that was the last set he had in stock..  Apparently they are getting a tad hard to come by..  Can't hurt to check with Jack though...

I checked with my parts guy back when Corey was looking..  He was able to locate a set, but they were Topline..  Personally, I never cared for their VW rings though..

Maybe try contacting Total seal or Hastings and see what can be made?

Yeah, my Top Line pistons came with rings but I'm wary of using them.

Guess it's time to call Total Seal

Also, I checked with the dealership today. Apparently ALL oversize rings for the 1.6s are NLA  :(

Looks like I finally struck gold. Found an ad on thesamba.com for Grant 1mm rings and just ordered them. He said he can get more so here's the link for whoever else is looking:

PLEASE: do us all a favor and report back on how this guy treats you on this purchase...like how long it took to get....if they were what they were advertised as.....if they really came in a "Grant" box....if they were packaged safely, etc.
Thank you up front.
The mask and the shot(s) are actually an IQ test. If you are wearing or circulating, you just failed the test. I can't feel sorry for you.

Will do. Do you have cause to doubt this seller or have you just not dealt him?
