This is my GTD. You are witnessing the sound of my attempt to start it after it has stood for at least 8 months totally untouched. Initial sound is me putting my camera onto record, and I later open the door. Below is a pic.

my 35i passat also has the underbody cover.
but its just plastic,can i add something to it than can absorve the sound and still resist the weather and heat?
something cheap,this is a vw ;D

Probably some sort of liquid sound deadening like lizard skin. It is ceramic and will take the heat. Maybe truck bedliner, but I don't know how much heat your are talking, undercoat can run close to exhaust with minimal issues.

My engine was incredibly loud until i replaced all of the hydraulic lifters. now it's (no exaggeration) half as loud or less...
what i thought was injector noise was lifter clack.

if anyone owns a 8v VW with hudro lifters, and the lifters are of unknown mileage, then they probably need replacing..

my last set of hydro lifters made it 40k miles and now i got a ticker again..

anyone know if you can get lifters for VWs with that tiny hole in the face to oil the cam?
