I have a caddy w/ a 1.6TD. Currently is has the OEM hood pad plus I dynamated the hood. I also put a rubber seal all the way around the edge of the hood. Even with 2 muffler in series my caddy is still fairly loud.I do have one of those TDI sound shield that go under the engine but haven't installed it yet. Perhaps I can get to that this weekend on report back whether it makes a big difference or not.
The TDI belly pan is an acoustical thing of beauty... it looks like the wall of a miniature recording studio, with varied sizes and heights of dense acoustic foam cubes. Between that and the top foam-lined engine cover there's a huge attenuation in sound.
enough boost is when you have 3 dimple marks in the hood from the valve cover nuts..
I've got a heck of a lot more noise coming from under the hood than I do from the tailpipe either way...
