Can anyone identify this pump please?
« on: May 16, 2010, 12:41:34 am »
Hi I have found an AAZ injection pump but want to know what it is before I buy it. I want to be able to tune it so want to know if it has a star wheel or is the "joke" LDA etc. Can anyone tell me if its good for power gains or not as Im running the flat top pump at the moment.
Unfortunately my camera ran out of battery so was not able to get a picture, but I have the numbers that are stamped on it. They mean nothing to me. ???

450 494 348

Any help would be much appreciated.

Most Bosch numbers start with 460... so the pump number is probably 460 494 348 .

Yes it probably is 460 as the numbers were very hard to make out. If it has a "joke" LDA is it possible to fit the star wheel set up at all?

If it has a perfectly flat top - you may run into problems

If it has a domed top of any kind - the LDA can be easily sorted.

I wouildn't worry about the lack of starwheel - I've yet to find anyone that worries about it in reality, virtual reality yes, real life no ;)

If you are bothered, you can lift the spring with a spacer (washer) to perform the same effect.

Here are some of the options.

Flat topped AAZ - 'joke LDA'

Full eco - no LDA

The pump you want - full LDA, no extra electrics

I know it's a renault pump but it looks the same.

Ok thanks. Looking at your top pic of the flat top LDA, the pump I have ATM looks like this but without the actuator thingy at the top right of the pic. Excuse my stupidity but this is the first diesel I have ever attempted. I have built many powerfull petrol engines but this is my first diesel so any help is much appreciated.

I have put an AAZ into my VW van that used to have a petrol engine. I assume the actuator looking devise is for fuel enrichment as the boost rises. Mine does not have this which is worrying. I assume it would run lean when it boosts. I have my eye on another pump with a domed top. What I will do is take pics of what I have and the pump Im looking to buy. I dont want to buy something that wont do the job. If you could have a look that would be really helpful as I feel out of my depth ATM. Thanks for your help Reg.

In the first picture the actuator on the top right is a vacuum fast idle pod. It has no effect on fueling except at idle.

You don't need to worry about running lean with a diesel. Lean is cooler but less power.

Ive lost my lead to charge my camera >:( but have taken a few of what I have on my mates phone. Apologies for the poor pics.
Looking at the pump I was wondering if someone has removed the dome pump top and replaced it with a home made plate. It doesnt look like a factory part as it looks filed on the edges. I could be wrong and it may just be wear marks where its been touching the engine lid on the van(or its been filed for clearance of the lid).

Pump number is 460 494 336

That one basically does not have a LDA. I know the top cover you mean, it is actually genuine Bosch even though it looks like crap. We have a couple of them in the shop.

Hosting to photobucket is exactly what you need to do in order to post pictures

Ok thanks. The pump I have my eye on is apparently from an AAZ and does have the domed top. Would this be more tuneable? I cant find a 1.6GTD pump anywhere so think this may be a compromise but its got to be better than the crap pump I have, right? Would this domed toped pump have a boost pin? Reg has said if it has a domed top then it can be sorted so shall I buy the pump then before someone else does? Its £125. Seems reasonable to me but what do I know!

Some of the non functional LDA pumps have a dome shaped LDA. If it is threaded for the boost line banjo bolt then it has all the guts (usually).

Is this for an AAZ or 1.6?

My engine is a AAZ 1.9.

Can a 1.6 pump be fitted to my AAZ as there is one for sale in the for sale section. It will cost a bit to post to the UK but if its the one to have Im ok with that. Ive copied the info. What do you think?

For sale - a modded 1.6 pump

Features:
the gov mod,
a 1.9 cam plate,
extended travel boost aneroid
tuned to support 24 psi up to 6100 RPM
resealed 15k ago
Motor is a standard 1.6 with a t3 that should have the HG changed.

Open to offers - located near Ottawa

Or I have just found this one in the UK. I have searched the part number and worked out that this pump is for an SB engine fitted to a 1.6 Jetta I believe. Looks very much like the one Reg Cheeseman said to have.
