I wouldn't bother with a 1.6 pump then. Yes the LDA is a bit easier to tune but you can still make it happen with the 1.9 one.

They have different fueling curves as well as timing curves.

One other clarification in case search leads someone here some day:  the first picture in this thread is a pump of mine...  and it doesn't have the "joke" LDA... it has "NO" LDA.   ;)

Not the best picture but you can kind of tell the lid on the LDA is a completely flat plate... no slight dome to it.  This is because there's nothing under there... no LDA guts, no nothing.  Its off an early Canadian ECO Passat.

The "joke" LDA on the other hand  has a slight dome to it and a pin with very little slope... ie ... the slope is a joke!  However, at least it has the LDA mechanics and you can grind the pin a bit.

Some day we'll have to make the definite pump identification thread... so many models!

@ Burn_your_money, thanks, so you think I should look for a 1.9 AAZ pump with the pin inside even though its a flat sided one and this will have a threaded boost line banjo bolt? Now this may seem a silly question to you but where is the boost line banjo on the pump. Having not seen one I dont know and if Im told where it is then I can ask the guy to look at his pump for this threaded bolt before I buy it. If its not threaded then what will it be? Then I can ask him to look for that too. Or do you think I should ask him to remove the domed top and tell me whats inside if he will do that?

My quest continues!

@ Vincent- thanks for the info. Your right a pump identification thread would be good as Im really struggling with this. I find the people on this site are amazingly helpful though. I have used other sites in the past and a newbie can be ignored.

Sorry for all the questions. Thanks everyone for your help. I feel I will find the right pump with your guidence eventually! ;D

Notice the green arrow I've added to this picture

On some (most) AAZ pumps the banjo bolt goes into the top of the LDA. If this is not threaded then there is nothing inside the LDA. If it has a nipple on it then the LDA has guts. 99 times out of 100 anyways ;)
