while yanking the idle switch off of it, I noticed that the local yard has a diesel jetta without AC.
it has the hard to find non AC alt and bracketry that puts the alternator downwards instead of up top.
if anyone needs/wants such a set of brackets/pulleys I could find out what they want for it.

If it's a MK2;
the main alternator bracket is the same,.. AC or not.
It's the alternator and lower adjuster bracket that are different.
If it's non-power steering; the u-joint and boot off the steering go for quite a bit on the vortex.

its a mk1, so it should be a different bracket(might be a motor swap, but will have to look further to tell)
good point on the steering shaft, I might have to grab that next time I am out there.

Manual steering on a MK1 is pretty common.
The A2s with manual steering,.. that's a little harder to find.
That MK1 alternator, and bracket should sell fast.

Make sure to include the small upper bracket and adjuster bar,.. and include all the bolts; some are different than the AC bolts.
Might want to grab the waterpump and crank pullys too.

will def get the pulleys
this one has the tensioner bracket on the bottom, and it attaches to the alt bracket, not the head.

I think the motor was from a MK2, it has the fuel return standoff on the pump, and a vane style vac pump.
I will take pics of it on friday when I head out that direction so you all can tell if it is what you want.

well, just got ahold of the shop with the alt and bracket, they say $120-ish(depending on what all I grab)
and I think I can cram it in a flatrate box to ship it, so how does $170 shipped(includes finders fee and fuel do go and get it) sound?
