Hi, I have been pricing up the EGT's as i want to turn up the boost on my 91 GTD. They seem so expensive, are there any cheap ones out there? And from reading the guides on here, i am right in thinking i need one before i turn up the boost aren't i? :?

"Westach" makes an inexpensive somewhat ugly non powered aircraft gauge you might want to investigate. ~$80CDN with the probe.

Watch out for some of the cheaper gauges on the market. Generally speaking, some of the cheaper gauges are also slower reacting. I had a VDO in the past and I thought it was garbage. I have an Autometer now and it is a lot faster though I wish it could be even faster.

The westach was super fast, at least as fast as the electronic Tdi gauge I have, that is why I recommend it, very good for the $$$ and I believe westach would be more easily accessible in the UK. (common for home builder aircraft kits to use such gauges so any aircraft places near you should have them).

If your using the gauge to protect your engine you should buy a quality one. That would be like wering a cheap ass helmet from wal-mart.

I paid $120 for my Autometer and it came with a weld in bung, pipe thread bung and a hose clamp set up that just requires a hole drilled. Plus of coruse the probe and lead. Fonud it brand new on ebay.

My current tdi setup was ~160 shipped to my door

It is a 2 in 1 analog boost and digital egt that scales the digits.

I agree, it worked really well, it just didn't fit the MK IV decor. I am still using the westach probe with the new gauge since it did work so well. for the money hard to beat.

I bought a fairly inexpensive one before I really read this forum much, but it seems to work ok and has what I think is a decent response, but I haven't ever seen another to compare it to so I don't know for sure. $89 including the probe and 6' of wire. The only bad thing is the tinted one was almost impossible to read in the daytime due to me having such an open vehicle that lets in a lot of light. Probably would have been fine with tinted windows. I ended up making my own clear bezel.

That's really cool, but I cannot find that setup on TDIClub. Searching "TDI boost gauge" nets me 1317 hits. If I narrow it down with your username I still get 313 hits (in 47.9 seconds) and I picked through about half of those and still cant find it! Can you point me a little closer? Where did you get it from?

Those gauges are the shiznit!!!

I figure I can get, volts, water temp, boost, egt, oil press and oil temp all combined on 3 gauges for $500.00 shipped!
