Does anyone know where a guy could find lda springs for the 1.6l pump with different tensions or where I could locate some part # for them. I currently have a yellowish spring and I'd like to find something a little stiffer.
I'm working on some fine tuning of my mtdi pump playing with the lda. After making my own boost pin, I'm very close to utilizing the full potential of the lda. My goal has been to eliminate smoke at low boost levels yet still achieve full fueling at 20 psi. I'm really close. I need to increase the reach of the lda lever where it contacts the control lever by about .030" to get full available range.
So again, any info on stiffer springs for the lda would be great.

Okay, how about telling me what color spring is in your own lda. Mine is definitely a gold color. This info could really help me out.

Hi,
you could use the original bosch spring 1 464 617 710, which will increase the boost for full moving from approximate 0,5 bar to approximate 1,0 bar.

Thanks Allewslowbuged. That's exactly what I was looking for! As soon as I'm done testing I'll post my final results. So far I'm thrilled with the reduction of smoke without sacrificing power.

Hi,

That's awesome! Does anyone know where to get that spring in North America though? I tried calling my local dealer, but they were no help. I'm going to email Bosch and see what they say.
And would it be the same in a 1.9 pump?

The 1.9 pump for the aaz engine not only had a joke pin but also a joke spring as far as I'm concerned. Actually, the whole lda is a joke. There is no starwheel adjuster, no smoke screw and even the full travel of the pin and internal lever is less than the 1.6 pump.
Update. I pulled an lda spring out of a buddys pump and it's a light blue color. I compared it to my gold spring and it is virtually identical. Same wire dia, and same size in general. I'm wondering what the spring for the cummins engines compare.

I have a 4BTA pump on my car right now, I could pop the top off the LDA and tell you what the spring looks like.
I can get you overall free length/diameter as well as wire diameter.
not sure if I can accurately get you a spring rate though...

That would be great if you could get me the wire diameter specifically. The 1.6td springs were both .090". I would assume spring diameter to be the same and probably the free length. The only measurement I took was wire dia. I'll check the other measurements tomorrow.

Giles can order it for you. LDA springs usually take a long time to come in though as they are almost never replaced, and therefore never stocked.

I've already contacted Giles about it and he said he would look into what he has around the shop. If it needs to be ordered so be it. I don't "need" the spring, I "want" the spring! As long as the price isn't too outrageous.

I have a yellow spring in one of my pumps and normal silver in the other il get measurements tonight if i remember.
I should really have looked at this before as it might help me with my pump as well.
Stronger spring will affect the rate at which the spring compresses under boost so might cure some "coming on to boost" smoke up?

I wonder if your silver and yellow springs are similar to each other like my gold and light blue spring. Who knows we might be talking about the same colors!
"Coming on to boost" smoke up has been the main reason why I've put this effort into setting up my lda. So far I've had great progress. More on this later. Just looking for input on springs at the moment.
I've noticed that since the website changed servers that we lost a great deal of good info on the lda. I looked through the faq and found very little. Might be time to add a thread about it in the faq again.

What way have you set the lda up at the minute 410?
Ive got a grinded pin, silver spring that came on the pump, smoke screw right the way out for max travel and the starwheel as high as it will go to try to stop the fuel coming in too early with boost.

I made my own boost pin anto. I also backed off the smoke screw to achieve max travel. After I installed the new pin, I disconnected the boost line from the intake and backed off the max fuel screw until I was completely smokeless at wide open throttle. I reconnected the boost line and adjusted the starwheel adjuster until I had min. smoke while boost was building yet not too much lag. Worked out awesome. It almost has a powerband of a 2 stroke.

Sweet might give that method a try.
Ive found though that if you want power with no compromise then you will have smoke, its impossible to avoid it.
Back to topic.
I have 2 springs as you know;
silver/ metally is what was in the pump
a yellowy top half spring with an orange bottom half which i put in and it is definitely a stronger spring as i was able to adjust the starwheel down and give the same performnce with same smoke as the silver/metally spring.
