its not really anything special to look at. straight rust free body. the interior is thrashed, but its got recaros! everything that ive done to it, basically i make due with what i have to the best of my abilities. it needs a cabriolet front end tho
your fuel mix is too lean.
too lean? i thought you couldnt run a diesel too lean? i can fix the too lean part. ive got a turbo pump and infectors i want to put on it. but my problem is that i cant get anything but an idle out of the pump. no throttle at all.
your fuel mix is too lean.
pinging is a sign of a lean mixture on a gasser engine. pretty sure it doesn't apply to diesels whatsoever.
diesel pinging is most likely due to a bad injector. if not injectors, it has something to do with the injection pump. a deliver valve could be suspect in this case...
its done it with 2 different sets of fairly new injectors. and now its becoming hard to start when its cold. have to pull the CS knob and give it throttle to keep it running for the first 5 - 10 seconds. then you let off the throttle and it purrs like a kitten. then after its about 140* i push the CS knob in. i know nothing about the history of this pump, other than i got it from my grandpa and he said it ran on his caddy. when i had my original pump on my car, it would fire up when it was 0* outside. and you wouldnt have to throttle it. and it wouldnt miss when cold either. my engine has an intermittent miss when you first start it up. and like i said, it goes away in about 10 seconds.
so it only pings at high rpm? you also said it idles like crap? crack open each injector line (at the injector) one at a time and see if the idle noise changes. if it doesn't, then you've found the suspect injector. even with a good injector, it could be the injector deliver valve. dakotakidd posted a similar issue with a bad delivery valve on the pump (the part sticking out of the pump head, where the injector line connects to) so he changed the delivery valve with a known good one, and the problem went away. this could be happening to you too...
no, it doesnt idle like crap, it only idles rough for like 10 seconds if its dead cold. and misses also when cold. i know its not missing from low compression, cause its a fresh engine. and ive cracked the lines when it was running to see if it were any differnet, its not tho.
