right im chewing my way through aux belts far too often, about ever 3000 miles i need to replace the multi v aux belt, the edges are chewed and frayed and there are bits torn off from the v's, gotta the belt is on the wrong way round, its wearing tracks into a tensioner pulley that has no tracks, it was once flat, so im assumeing its on wrong way round, could someone post up a diagram of the correct belt routeing please

Check all the bearings in the accesories that the belt powers

I hear you. Mine lasts a little over 3k. It's just the standard v belt though.
Is there any play in the alt shaft?
No WP or AC?

not last time i changed the belt, it was perfect, oh yea forgot about the water pump  i think the belts on the wrong way, its wearing into the tensioner, its not groved for the belt, but the tensioner only has about 3/4mm from crankshaft pulley, i really dunno

that looks similar, not sure the tensioner is the same though or even there on mine, it tensions using the alternator i think, im not sure of the way mine is currently routed though

Nah, I think that engine uses those new-fangled spark plug thingies...
However, it does look like it's gonna breathe some fresh life into someone's A1...

its the second one allright, and its routed the same way, why isnt the waterpump pulley groved, if it was it would probably last X3 as long, also, the belt squeeks after say a month for about a min afterstart up, i assume its slippinin on the alternator, if it was retentioned every month so it didnt get a chance to slip, would that help???

mine squeaks on me from startup. i've tensioned the belt as far as it can go too... i'm about ready to put another alternator that i have on it, and then rebuild the other one.
i usually have to rev the piss out of the motor to get the alternator to stop squealing. pretty annoying!!!

Time for a new belt as well sounds like, (pun intended).

The one I posted has an auto tensior. Basically there is a spring behind the alt bracket that pushes it out and keeps tension on it.

I'm sure any serpentine belt system is meant to have an automatic tensioner. Where the belt on the water pump pulley on gasser in the pics is wrong. tThat pulley is to have the belt run on it's back over it. Grooved pulleys = groove in the belt, flat pulleys= back [flat] side of the belt. Unless there is an adjustment on that alternator that can't be seen in the photo, how is it tensioned ? just by forcing the belt on???
