Will a 1.6 TD Mate/ Bolt to a Cable Shift/ Corrado Platform?
« on: April 23, 2006, 05:52:39 am »
Have read about the TDI swaps; Engine Mount stuff compatible to the TD block?
If the trans bolts up, then I'd have to worry about the front mount and rear mount...
Specific to a 1990 Corrado- not a VR6
Easy peezy? I know I'd also lose tach and stuff, though.
Thanks for looking and your thoughts.
Rich

4cyl engines all bolt to 4 cyl tranny. but the o2a trannies have cable shift, which isnt hard to swap, and hydraulic clutch. you can buy a cable clutch mechanism or swap out the pedals, and master cyl for the 02a tranny into your car. then use a vr6 clutch kit with the g60 flywheel and youll have a nice setup. not sure how the gear ratios will match up to a diesel but they are nice for turbo gas motors.

The Corrado is essentially a Golf when it comes to putting engines in. The name of the thread sounds like it's not quite what you're asking in the first post. What are you looking to do, A TD swap or a TDI swap?

Excuse the post vagueness;
With the correct engine mounts, could a 1.6 TD mount into a 90 Corrado without much hassle?
Would a fresh, 1.6 TD intercooled engine have enough guts for the car, or would a 1.9 TDI or TDI-m be the better route?
Thanks, Rich

The TD would fit with no problems. As I mentioned before, a Corrado is pretty much a golf, which works easily with all MKII and MKIII platforms. If you hopped it up, you could get up to 200 HP/400 ft lbs tq. A more reasonable expectation is 110/120 HP with mid 250's for torque.

The 1.6 is usually preferred to the 1.9 TD IDI as it is a better revver.

If you're going TDI, the easiest would be the MKIII TDI as it will pretty much bolt in. The B4 Passat TDI is the next easiest, with the native 1.9 ALH and PD TDI's being the harder ones as you have mount issues. Of course, you could go with a TDI-M as you can use a wastegated or staged turbo setup and a mechanical pump (11 or 12 mm for the big umph).
