Injector question?
« on: September 03, 2009, 01:08:32 pm »
I have an 82 rabbit pickup. Its a NA motor with a NA injection pump. I just installed a vnt-15 turbo. My question is do I
need to change the 130 injectors to 155 injectors? Will it hurt anything or effect performance to use the 130 injectors.
Thanks for any advice.

Not your total answer, but getting the ball rolling.

91-92 EcoDiesel was turbo charged without LDA Fuel enrichment on the Inj Pump. So you are "somewhat similar" to that. Not saying identical.

It used the 155 bar injector pressure like the TD uses.
So you should probably be at 155 also.

Thats just using a theory, and as far as i can take it.
The other theory in my head is the bar pressure (130 vs 155) causes a slighter delay in the fuel charge. The engineers put them there on turbo applications for good reason is the only thing i'm sure of.

Probably upper rpms under boost is where it becomes more significant to have 155 bar.

i ran a n/a 1.5 with a VNT17 for a couple years. i never had a problem with it. always ran like a top and had plenty enough fuel to blast 30+ psi out of that turbo. had stock n/a pump and 130 bar injectors. i dont think the engine really cares what injectors it has in it. only reason i swapped to 155's was cause i got a newer set with my turbo IP.

Can you tell a difference between the 2?

i cant for sure say there was such a difference in the injector, as there was in the fuel pump. i swapped injectors and pumps on the same day. but holy hell, it made my car come alive, and smoke alot.
