MK3 5 speed swap into MK2

well i have a 1.6N/A tranny just lying around... with the lower gearing i would probably never use it unless all my tranny's blew...  so why not just use the flange's from that?? :)  i mean.. it's bad enough that i bought mk3 100mm driveshafts... now if someone wants to trade me good used MK3 driveshafts for the MK2 100mm driveshafts, i'll do that.

I also bought a reman driveshaft ...  the boot was torn all the way around and was getting no lube :(  finally found out what that clicking noise was   and was looking to keep that one good driveshaft.

i can't wait to try this tranny out on a dirt road though (not that my car makes that much power, but the tranny does have a peloquin 80% diff   )

Please let me know how that diff is, I was thinking of getting one for my next car.

I'll check my garage and see if I have any 100s, you can have them for cheap. They will need to be repacked though

if they are exactly the same length as mk2 90mm's then i'm all for it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! shipping might hurt though, but it will be a lot easier.

personally i think that $800 for a peloquin kit is wayyyy too much... do you have access to a relatively cheap kit somewhere???

There is one for sale on vortex installed in a short ratio tranny for $750 OBO

They are mk2 axles. My friend and I parted out a car about 2 years ago and it had 100mm axles. I'm just not sure if we scrapped them or not

ok well MK2 flanges on MK3 CHE tranny.  DONE

for my first time doing this, i think i did quite well!

funny how one side of the mk3 tranny had an allen screw holding it in, and the other side had the rubber sealing cap. (so i have an extra rubber sealing cap...)

forgot my camera :( i would have taken pics! honestly!!

i find that turning this tranny by hand via the flanges is much harder than on my mk2 n/a diesel tranny.  wonder if that is because of the limited slip?

I've seen this happen many times on other forums I'm on.  Take and knock the 100MM CV's off of your new axles and put them on your old ones.  From there should bolt right up.

yea but the 100mm flange on the tranny sticks out another little bit... this way swapping the flange's i won't need to worry about clearances etc.
