I'm down to 35mpg after compensating for the slipping odo.
I think it's due to the improperly functioning vnt-15 causing high backpressure for how much benefit it gives. arrrrrrg

if you open your vaines up all the way, like ive been saying since you put it on there, you would have almost no back pressure. VNT turbos flow better than normal turbos.

That's how I had it for the first month or two, I got 4-5psi boost and high egts and LOTS of smoke. It also had less power than when it was NA

Open them back up, and don't drive with your foot to the floor all the time. lol if you were making 5 psi how was it less powerful?

I have no idea, maybe it was in my head since I thought it would've had lots more boost/power
.
That 5psi was only when it was floored so I could do it for a few seconds and the egt's would hit 1250F easy and sometimes 1300+F
. I could drive with the egt's at 900F with less than 1psi and it was very slow, like cruising at 60mph and no power for hills.

your timing sounds super advanced or something. didnt you say it was spot on?
ive got my pump turned up way far, and it pours blackness. i can hold my car to the floor and not get the engine too hot. i dont have an EGT gauge, but every time my head comes off, the pistons and injectors look good every time.

and another thing, when you open the vaines, with the turbo on the car, are you pushing the lever towards the ground, or towards the hood? cause towards the hood is open. and towards the ground makes boost at idle...

My turbo is euro so it's backwards, the lever is directly between the head and turbo rather than by the firewall.
I hooked a rod onto the lever so I could easily operate it with the engine running and up=boost @ idle, actually I was able to rev it in neutral and get 10psi......that was LOUD under the hood!!
I've put it on hold for now, I just got too sick of re re relooking everything over

89 vanagon 1.6td: About 24 mpg on the first tank after turning the pump up a little, about 1/4 was a long trip, rest was hard city driving. Got about 29mpg mixed driving before. Oh, and my tank leaks out a few liters after each fill up so it's probably a little better.

just curious, but just how often does the head come off? and why?

the first time the head came off, i had to replace the headgasket, the second time i had to replace the block, and the 3rd time was to port and polish. mind you, thats in about 3 years time.

unknowing it was 180 out the vw tech at my boyfriends old dealership actually moved all the screws enough that it ran.
the car wouldnt go past 55mph and smoked like no tomorrow (fuel dumping out the back).
but yes it did run.
i have actually have video of before and after the giles pump.

Ok what if you are on a boat/shore with rods but not actually in the water they pull up and ask for your licence and dont have one, considering you dont have your line in the water can they still fine you?
