Does any of this do any damage to the turbo or anything else? Like when you remove the boost limiter switch?
it can. as stated in the FAQ too much smoke = too high egt's = blown engine/turbo. if driven carefully enough with the extra fuel/boost your engine can last a long time. running a good synthetic engine oil always helps too. most turbo failures are from using crappy oils that coke up from the super hot turbo. small super hard (near diamond maybe???) pieces of carbon form from the super heat and are then sent through the oil system to do damage.
other problems include burnt valves/pistons from over-fueling. an EGT gauge is a good idea....

IMPORTANT NOTE about using a 1.6 boost pin in an AAZ pump!
Ok, from my not super accurate calcs as I'm using a 40 year old bathroom scale....
The pressure required to START moving the pin is
AAZ 2.4 PSI
Cummins 4.0 PSI
The pressure required to bottom out the pin is
AAZ 3.0 PSI
Cummins 11.9 PSI
So what I think would be best is an even stiffer spring, though maybe a tiny bit shorter if you are pushing over 12 PSI. But it shows that you really need to change springs out when replacing or modifying an AAZ pin!!!
I believe the 1.6 spring should be the same as the Cummins spring.
One other thing I found is that the Cummins spring should be opened up slightly at the bottom so that it fits over the steel sleeve at the bottom of the LDA, otherwise it might start rubbing off metal as it rides on the lip of it. I didn't take this extra compression into account in the above figures.

So if i am modifying a 1.9TD pump, with the 1.6TD boost pin, should i use the spring from the 1.6 or the 1.9??
I noticed an indent on the membrane of the 1.6 boost pin, where is that indent suppose to be when it is in 1.6 pump and when its in 1.9 pump?

Sorry, I don't have a link to the starwheel stuff and my pump doesn't have one.
I would use the 1.6 spring because if your 1.9 spring was like mine, you would go to full enrichment as soon as you had any boost at all, kind of defeating the purpose and economy of the LDA.

Hi,
Thanks for the informative topic, I'm slowly on my way to getting some more performance from my 1.9td thanks to it.
As I've the 1.9 engine, would putting an injectof pump from a passat estate 1.6td be a performance boost? I figure it'd save me all the mofifying of the 1.9 pump.
Only thing is I don't know if the 1.6td passat has all the performance parts in the pump that I'd need, can anyone help me with this?

aye, I've done both hose as well as remove the boost limit switch and it's a great improvement. I was wondering if the 1.6td passat pump had the profiled boost pin i want, and a bigger plunger?
I want to do the governor mod too and i'd be easier doing it on a pump out of the car I think. If the passat pump doesn't have the boost pin I want I'll keep the 1.9pump and modify that.

Plunger would be the same, but the boost pin would actually have a profile. The nose is a different length though, so it wouldn't line up without swapping brackets as well. You could just swap pins and springs though.

Preparation of the engine before increasing the fueling.
1. It is necessary to unscrew the screws #1 and #2 and to withdraw the limit-switch. (you probably have a cover over), You can use tie-rap and fix the switch elsewhere (but it must remain open)
This modification makes it possible turbo to function full-time instead of compressing only when you ask for all the power.
I was playing around with the first 2 parts of this mod. and found that I didn't have to remove the limit switch.
There is a piece of metal on the throttle assembly (by the switch) that keeps the switch closed until you open up the throttle. I just bent this piece of metal back so the switch is open all the time regardless of throttle position. It saved me from having to loosen stuff and relocate the switch.

I understand that english is not the primary language in french canadia, but would it be possible to have someone re-write this properly? Some things had to be read 2 or 3 times to be understood properly.

I can find a boost pin quite easiely from ebay but where can I find a spring with the tension of a 1.6 spring?
