When I was (much) younger my car felt like a helicopter cockpit to me.. I could almost hear the turbine wind up while waiting for the glow plug light to go out, and would scan all the various gauges in a sequence as "real" pilots do. And of course diesel on a cold morning smells a lot like JP2.

If only I knew about Westach gauges back then.... it would have really completed the illusion !!!

So I suppose you have to take the exhaust manifold off to drill this probe hole? I can only assume you wouldn't want any metal filings getting anywhere near the turbo.

I just ordered the probe mentioned part #10-01478 and was wondering if anyone who had installed one before knew how big a hole to drill into the manifold and what to tap it with? I would like to get the manifold ready so I can put the head on my engine this weekend and then mount the probe in once it arrives.

I believe that part comes in two configurations... 1/4 NPT and 1/8 NPT ?? Best bet would probably be to ask AirCraft Spruce themselves perhaps... would suck if you guessed and the hole was too big.

Ya. I might try that. I might just put off putting the head on too until it is here, thinking about it it will make things a lot easier to wait since there are a couple things I still need to do.

BTDT... waiting for the thermocouple delayed installing my head by about a week, but I found other stuff to do, and I only wanted to drill and tap once.

I would hope its 1/8 (mine was) as a 1/4 pipe thread is pretty big. Tap drill for 1/8-27NPT is an "R" drill but an 11/32 drill will work if you only have fractional.

Should you put any thread lock or sealant etc. around threads of thermo coupler when screwing into the manifold. It will be hot so what if anything will last or work.

No need for sealer...pipe threads are self sealing due to being tapered and the fact that the peaks of the threads will actually deform and flatten out against the valleys as you tighten. This also means that pipe threads can only be tightened and losened so many times before they lose their sealing ability.

Edit: I suppose a little copper or nickel anti sieze couldn't hurt but its not necessary.

It looks like the round 2C2 gauge that they now offer goes from 0 or 100 to 1700.
It's not the 700 to 1900 described earlier.

Maybe they replaced the old 2c2 with the 2c2-1,... for the reason suggested here in this post.

Now the 32A-1, in the last link I posted is square,...
but the 3C2-1 below it is round, and in the right range
,... but looking closer I see they are both 3 1/8"

I called them today and asked about the 3C2-1 and they don't keep them in stock so there is an added shipping fee,... because it will be drop-shipped.
Thanks for helping me figure this out,.. I'll call and get a price for the 2C2-1 shipped.

It also looks, from the westach.com site, that the 2C2-1 is supposed to be used with the
"For use with 48" type "K" thermocouple"
does that mean the 10-01478 probe that we are using will need a 4 ft extension to work right?

That's supposed to say extension, right?
It also metions"weld-on" or "clamp-on"
Clamp-on is the one we want right? Are we supposed to mention that with the order?

What about the wire that goes between the 2.

Does it have to be 4 ft for the 2C2-1?
....and what terminals are used on the ends?
