Low performance on M-TDI?

Hi, I have a golf mk 3 with 1.9 Mtdi engine, I didn't put together the pump myself, so I don't know what's in it and why.
The car is running fine, it's doing about 1.0 BAR with some mod to the boost pin, but it lacks alot of speed?
It feels like theres newton enough in it, but it's going .. max 130 km/h ? I cant get it over that, and it's very slow from 80-130...
I really can't figure out what the problem can be, We have tried to adjust pump timing without any luck.
By the way, the car is getting enough fuel? It's doing black smoke when the pedal is floor'd.

Could it be, the camplate \ spring inside the pump that is wrong? is it even possible to bolt on a pump from the normal 1.9td? If so, could it be such one?
Should I buy a 1.9 TDI pump and do some mods? I'm in urgent need of assistance:)

I'm kinda talking to myself, hope that's no problem. I've been looking at pictures of builds\pumps.. And the one I have looks like a normal GTD\1.9TD pump?
If that is, do I then need to switch camplate \ spring from the tdi pump?

It's hard to say what to do without knowing what if anything has been done to the pump internally. Black smoke means you need more boost. Hopefully you have an EGT gauge or you may fry the engine or turbo.

could be lack of timing advance, as TDI's like their advance! do you have an intercooler on it? is it a true TDI converted to mTDI or a 1.9TD converted to mTDI? could be injectors as well... but like jimfoo said an EGT gauge would be a good investment unless you don't mind big problems later on...

I'm investing in a EGT gauge, it's only doing black smoke when under pressure, so it's not all the time and I'm not killing it with revs..
But the pump timing could be the main problem, or one of the problems.. Think we, in lack of better knowledge, set the pump to 0.8 in timing, and I've read in here now, that it's 1.05-1.15 that's good for tdi?

Yah, that figure for timing is really quite bad for an mTDI. I started at 1.12 with mine and I believe I currently have it setup for 1.15. I have quite a bit of advance that I can run and the motor is set to support it along with the pump.
That said, if your pump isn't set up for the correct advance (internally...the IDI pump with TDI pump head, camplate, etc.. still needs advance modification as well as overall travel for the throttle) then it will always hit that "brick wall" your describing. What you've said so far is very characteristic of all of that.
You should def. be able to hear it begging for more advance as well. Should be really chattering at the moment...

I'm not experienced with diesel engines, but i must admit the engine dosen't sound right, it sounds a little like a tractor? hehe.
Well I'm going to try to set, the pump advanced. I don't think I have what it takes to do anything to the pump, int..
Hope advancing the pump will do it :\

You describe the typical symptom of some TDI pumps parts in IDI pump.
I dont know how to help you..... you need to remove and open the pump to see what parts is used inside.

Well I'll see if I can track anyone down that knows anything about pumps, the bosch techs takes a whole fortune to look at it.. about 2000$

Well I'll see if I can track anyone down that knows anything about pumps, the bosch techs takes a whole fortune to look at it.. about 2000$
that makes what Giles charges look pretty damn good

ouch...indeed it does and suprises BOSCH techs will even modify beyond OEM specs in most cases...
The pump shops around here won't even consider it...OEM or bust for them when looking at/refurbing a pump. Martin is right, you'll really not going to know unless the pump is opened up and you figure a few things out.

Well thanks guys.

I tried to set the timings to 1.05 and the engine sounds so much smoother than before, but I don't really know, if I'm having a performance issue or i'm just a butthead driving diesel..
I'm doing 100 km/h in 3 gear before I have to change, I't don't hit any limiter as far as I can hear, I'm changing rather fast because I don't want to damage the engine. But it is really high in revs @ 100km/h
If I Drive normally I'll do 30km/h @ 1 gear, 60 @ 2 gear, 80 @ 3 gear, cause I don't know if I'm over revin' it?
But still, it's much smoother with more advanced timings!
but it laaaaaaaaaaaaaacks power on high end
I'll have to give it a chance, but since there's no one in denmark to help me, I might try to find a ordinary golf gtd engine :\ If it dosent get better

IS IT POSSIBLE TO BOLT ON A AAZ PUMP ON A AHU\1Z ENGINE AND RUN WITH IT?
Cause I belive that's what been done.. And then I'll have to change the plunger, cam plate and head myself i belive?

I think your best solution is to bolt a ''stock'' AAZ pump on your engine, to be able to drive with it.
You can take your time and open your actual pump to see what parts is used inside, take a photo or post the part number engraved on some part.
216 nozzle It's recommended.

Okay, but don't you think it is a aaz pump that is just bolted on? Or should it actualy go better, with a aaz pump, than I describe it does?
