This is whats written on the compressor side of my MF engine turbo.
36W
KKK (in a triangle format)
5342 101 50 (99 is written in a circle it might be the serial number or sumthing)
So what turbo do i have?
Hi Torchd
John its a 70 hp engine... and the turbo is by KKK
My first name is "Christophe" - sorry. John Ross was just an evocation of the JR reference of some IDI engine ...
So your turbo could be a K24. There should be a riveted plaque with more informations on it. The plaque might be hard to read if the turbo is still on the engine and the engine in the car
@raf_construct : I found an AAZ engine, which has an EGR and a K14 turbo ... but thanks for the info - I was missing - about K03 turbos on AAZ engines
Hi Christophe,
I found the plate you are talking about on my MKIII.... but there is no plate on my mkII turbo..
The MKIII plate reads as follows.
5303 101 50 (94)
K03-003/97133
028 145 701R
So from this i understand that i have a K03 turbo... and i do have EGR on my engine.
One more thing i noticed is that the number i found on my mkII turbo, compressor side which is 5324 101 50 (99) is almost same as the number on my dads Merc E300TD, 1998 year, number is 5324 101 50 (74) and even this cars turbo doesnt have any sort of plate. So does that mean these two cars have the same turbo?
I can't refrain from asking...
are the watercooled turbos k14 or t2's then?
and are they in between the KO3 and t3?
Dunno anything else than written above about watercooled ones.
By growing sizes :
K03/GT15 <- Mk3
K14/T2 <- Mk2(watercooled or not ...)
K14 <- Mk3
K24/T3 <- Mk2
That is for Golf equipment of my knowledge - according to the french section of this forum. There are also the K16, the K04 and certainly many others in between the K03 and the T3 ...
Note : the riveted plaque need not be on the same side of every turbos. Sometimes it is riveted between the compressor and the turbine - on the down side - just in the right place for you can't see it if you do not take the turbo or the engine appart
Christophe....
What do u have to say about this...
"One more thing i noticed is that the number i found on my mkII turbo, compressor side which is 5324 101 50 (99) is almost same as the number on my dads Merc E300TD, 1998 year, number is 5324 101 50 (74) and even this cars turbo doesnt have any sort of plate. I'd like your input...
Thanks.

- rather a curious newbie willing to learn by sharing some informations, claims and guesses .... sorry !
If you were in France and certain that your turbo is stock, then your turbo would certainly be a K24 and especially if your car is an early Golf - I think
If you note similar numbers on (eg:) the compressor side then I'd say that they have similar compressor sides - but there are so many turbos as combinations of various compressors and turbines ... plus I am not so much of a specialist :?
http://www.intec-sarl.com/TARIF%202006%20Turbo%20VL.pdfhelped !
I could not find anything about your complete references but it looks like the third and fourth leftmost digit are for the type of the turbo - so :
5324-... is a K24
5316-... is a K16
...
5303-... is a K03
etc
So: 5324-10... should be a K24
Thanx Christophe!!
The link u sent is really helpful and informative!!
Im convinced that my MF engine has a K-24..... i just saw a thread on the forum... "Jakes KKK K-24 rebuild... i went thru it and i noticed thats exactly how my turbo looks like...."
and u highlighted that in 5324... the 24 represents the turbo type!
Thanx loadss!
