Installing a Tach
« on: July 28, 2007, 10:45:53 pm »
I want to add attach to my 1.6TD. Can I simply plug any 'ole 2 1/16 tach into the W slot on my alternator or do I need to buy a 'diesel' tach? I have seen 'Diesel' tachs at Egauges.com.

What is the right way to install a 2 1/16 tach?

yup, has to be a "diesel" tach (the signal from the w terminal is quite different from an ignition system), or you can buy a converter that will drive a normal tach... Dakota Digital sells them I believe.

VDO makes a diesel tach that fits their standard cup mount... had one in my caddy for years.

Alrighty; is this the conversion kit that's required to modify a stock vw tach or is there something else out there?
