Newbie saying hi!
« on: February 05, 2005, 05:44:08 pm »
Greetings everyone,
My name's James and I'm new to the board. I've got an 84 Rabbit with a 91 Jetta TD engine, built it all up from scratch last winter in an attempt to teach myself some mechanics skills. The previous car, a 91 Ford Thunderbird SC, was a mechanics nightmare to work on (but quite fun to drive-- when it ran right). Made the smart move to a simple and efficient VW and loving it! The whole car is mechanically brand new, though the body could use a touch up. I've added a top-mounted Saab 900 intercooler, K&N air filter, and 2.5" exhaust and dynomax muffler, among many other things. I just purchased a dial gauge and will be messing around with the injection pump in the next couple weekends. I'm a 22 year old working my way through a welder/fabricator dual trade qualification. I'm the black sheep of my VW friends with the diesel engine as they're all mostly 8 valve turbo fanatics, but we're all Mk 1 freaks! I'll do my best to help anyone out with Rabbit/Jetta/Cabriolet questions, and I've also got connections to loads of spare/upgrade parts for Mk 1's.
Happy 'Dubbing!
-James.

Let me be the first to welcome you, James!

Sounds like one of the car's I'm working on...an '84 GTI with a TD engine retrofitted. Heck, it seems like everyone's doing a 4-valve turbo motor...
