A2 into '92 B3?
« on: February 07, 2005, 09:37:09 pm »
I've read that an A2 ME engine will swap into a gas B3. Is that so? And if it is, what problems might I run into in doing such a swap? Problems such as:

-- Vacuum setup for brakes?
-- Axles mating up to engine?
-- Adding clutch stuff (B3 is currently automatic)?
-- And ...?

TIA.

It's going to work ...... It's actualy a strait forward swap ...

But the real question is ...... a 52hp automatic (and god knows how crap B3 auto trannies suck) in a 1400kg frame .......

Can you say 0-60mph in 25 secs

Well, what I forgot to mention, is that I was hoping to include the 5 spd currently attached to the engine as well. That's why I had a question about clutch into automatic.

Still, you're right, either way it's going to be sloooow but I can live with that.

Well, sort of. Hopefully it won't be that bad as the A2 engine seems to very strong for a normally asthmatic version.

Ridiculous compression #'s on 2 cylinders & high spec on 3rd cylinder might account for that: ~560, ~510 & ~495 respectively.

I double-checked those #'s by taking 2 readings so they're not bogus & altho it's only my 2nd time taking compression readings the readings I took of a 1.5L diesel were, with the exception of one cylinder, uniformly looooow (well below spec). So it isn't the gauge either.
