Hi all. I'm a new to the vw diesel world. 3 months ago picked an 84 westy 2dr diesel. I have already done a giles pump. what a difference.
Is there a better a/c bracket available to bolt to my 1.6 n/a.
something easier to adjust and will hold a smaller sanden(rotary)
compressor?
I aquired a 1.6 turbo motor from a 85 quantum. Other than changing mounts, exhaust down pipe, and brackets will the engine bolt in?
Also I was able to do a leakdown test. all cylinders were 15% or less. Any suggestions to do to the motor before i try to install this lump.
thank you for any help or suggestions.
mike
I guess libbybapa doesn't like you using the term 'westy' in place of 'westmoreland'. Anyway, call it what you want, even if some people don't like it, and think you should be jumped on for calling it that.
I think the oil pan and oil return like may be different too, but the core motor is the same.
get some total seal rings!
I'm not offended at all. I see the point. I thank you for the help.
total seal rings???
My appologies Andrew. As a Rabbit enthusiast, when I saw the term 'Westy', I immediately thought of Westmoreland, but as a Vanagon enthusiast, I can see how you would have been thinking Westfalia, and hence the confusion. The fact is, the term does get used interchangeably, and I guess it depends which camp a person belongs to, as to what it means to them. I see that it wasn't an attack, and just a correction based on what the term means to you.
total seal rings???
i swear by them, not at them
most awesome setup i ever used
mine have 25-30k on them now
due to a popped head gasket,i had a gander at my cyls, they look like the day i honed them
and talk about a real drop in oil fumes+crap out the breather
i hammer my car ,and still use less than a qt of oil in 2500 miles
i run my breather open, and the underneath of my car is NOT oil covered
thanks totalseal
Where do you get them rings!
you gotta buy oem rings+send them to total seal so they can convert them to gapless
while you are at it,,get some dry film cyl lube too
yea thats right use the dry film lube on the cyls instead of oil
i had 5 sets of rings modded (1 spare for safety on my end in case i broke one on assembly)
dry film lube ,and ring land lube
shipped for like 130$$
if i remember right ,,it was like 17-20$$ a piece to mod an oem ring to gapless
stock geotze rings modded by total seal
its sorta like "a ring inside a ring"
