Thanks Garry, I noticed that when I looked at my TD Jetta but being a pickup I wasn't sure.

I took a look at the pics. thats kinda odd that the struts did not rust!! but that one is rusted in reverse from the one i told you about that i have so shoot me your E-mail and i will send you pics of the one i got and you can post the pics here on the site for me! and i've never heard of a stock turbo diesel pickup ever made by VW A.G. I'm pretty sure all the pickups that went to canada are from westmoreland Pa. unless someone knows different ? looks like whoever did the swap knew what to take from the donor car ! the fuel filter don't look right seems to be hanging odd and not far enough over to the driver side! i will take the pics today and hopefully i can send them to you tonite!also send the pics to me so i can look at them closer !thanks Duane

It's a westy.. the "american style" headlight switch is the dead giveaway.

Other signs to confirm:

- square headlights
- fan speed lever rather than rotary switch
- very subtle: long motorola style plug on radio antenna rather than short right-angle German style
- copy of Playboy stuck behind the door cards rather than Der Spiegel... kidding !!!

As far as I know they never got a turbo, stock... and the fuel filter is definately not in a stock location.

Fun project.. usually the shock towers are swiss cheese by the time the body looks like that... you got lucky for sure.

I got a bit of the under coating off to get a better idea of what I'm up against

Popped the engine out, it wanted to go out the bottom but I wanted it out the top. I won

I think I need one of those BFI bars lol

Took off both fenders

Actually I was worried about this strut tower, when I reached underneath when I bought it I thought I felt a bunch of rust

A stock TD came from the factory with the fuel filter mounted with a OEM bracket that held it onto the firewall with a heat shield protecting it from teh turbo/exhaust. I finished up the DS fenderwell, nothing too shocking although I did find some rust in the inner strut tower

This was shot through the top of the strut tower towards the outside of the car

Started stripping the interior and I found what color I'm going to paint it

The engine is going to be a rebuild 1.6 TD with NA injectors and a NA pump. I'm going to run a K14. IC is a must. If I don't like it I'll change it up
