If there wasn't the whole border, lack of time and money issue I'd love to, thanks for the offer
I know how to remove the windsheild, I've done it a few times. I'm just scared it's all that is holding the truck together

well the border does make it a little difficult! everything else that was an absticle we could of worked something out? like meet ya half way, traded for TD engine parts or something like that? darn border!! always something!

braze a strip of sheet metal across the bad part to provide structural support. Then remove the windshield. If you can't braze, then tack it on with a welder. You'll be good to transport it to the shop...

Sorry Duane, poor wording on my part as well.
$60 for a new set is defintly a good price if they are OEM qulaity.
Right now my biggest hurdle is time, I want this done and driving by the end of august, hopefully it happens, if not I'll have an engine in my room on residence and a shell in my parking space
I think I'll leave the glass in until I get to the body shop, seems like less of a hassle
I hope to get alot done tomorrow so I can get the truck out of the garage so I can move onto other things. Res payment is coming up fast so I need to sell some parts

Tyler, I've owned some real rust buckets in my time. There's hope for the caddy yet.

FWIW: the border crossing wouldn't be an issue on that vehicle if the papers are sorted and you give the crossing 3 business days notice of when you will arrive (arrive during the hours they tell you you can cross during)

Tyler you are crusing on that teardown!!bed looks good though no rust there? looks like you had some pets? that truck looks identical to the red one in my driveway it has the same off white original paint underneath the dash and the engine compartment on mine! too bad about the windshield i hate that when that happens!

I would highly recommend stopping and buying a little more rust free caddy, buy one from the coast, mine was $600USD and it had virtually no rust on it anywhere on it. This thing is a safety hazard or in need of 4k or more of chassis work.

Tyler, you say you found rust like you had to really search for it.
Just kidding.
Actually, I have to say, you are getting the good metal nice and clean. Way to go. Looks good.
Some of the spots look nasty, but with it torn down and stripped so you can work on it, there is hope. And I'm surprised the bed isn't in worse shape.
Know of any good donor vehicles you can get some body parts from? I drive by stewardc's place every day. Maybe if he's not looking.......

Guess you're raiding one of your shells for all the sheet metal. That would be taking recycling to a new high...
Torch time!!! Get the floors taken care of first and work your way up. Thats a hell of a lot of car cancer to eradicate....

I have 4 cars all lined up to donate their good organs from. I'm starting with my old daily, the 84 rabbit diesel. It was my first car (favorite so far) so I like the idea of it "living on" in another of my vehicles LOL
It is strange how some spots rusted and others didn't. The bed does have quite a few holes but because I didn't grind them down you can't really notice them.
I actually just finished dropping it off at the body shop. He kept his quote the same so that's a good thing. I told him that once he has it a bit more structurally sound I'd like to come out and build a rotisserie so he can work on the floors and underneath. He said it was a good idea.
