Yeah I'm excited about it

He's definitely a fan of braising. I know he told me he was going to weld in the PS foot well area instead of braising.
Once he gets a bit more done I can build my rottisory and get to work on the underneath.
I'll let you know if anything comes up Duane, right now I'm just waiting to receive my turbo

If you or others need a rottisorie, maybe these will be of interest?

I made these from 50 mm box steel and cost about £70 in materials alone.

They are welded up so the caddy is held slightly over centre - please note I facked up the angle cuts on the bottom of the stand, and the brace is in a different place to drawings - please follow the drawings (I didn't!)

Cut the box up as follows..and weld together

And make the mounts as shown..

I bolted the mounts up to the car, then offered the front frame up so there would be just enough gap between bottom of stand and wing (about 1" with a mate stood holding a 1" plank against the car.) I then tacked it in place and then did the same to the back frame.

I unbolted the lot and welded it all up at work good and solid.

To lift the car I just slide a bar in one of the frames to make a lever and lift - I can do it on my own no probs.
To drop it down again, you need two as its impossible to push the car from one side and hold it on the other side on your own.

It is dead easy with two though.

Brazing definitely beat fibreglass, but I would prefer to Mig or Tig it... Brazing just heats up the metal on too large of an area for my liking. I know it doesn't heat it up like oxy-gas welding, but it's enough, IMO.

Liking the progress though.

Don't want to be a pain, but there's a reason people don't braze much anymore. You will eventually get rust because the two different metals (body steel and brazing rod) work against each other just like a battery. Still beats fibreglass and bondo though!

Galvanic corrosion will take a long time to appear if brazing is done properly. I would be more worried if the caddy was going to sit underwater unpainted for a while

I couldn't get that link to work.

I'm half planning on tearing the truck down again in a couple of years to redo it and do it myself so as long as it lasts that long with no problems I'll be happy. I have some things planned that just aren't practical right now.

In the mean time though look what arrived

Something like that, now not sure if it is bunk or not, but living a mere 12km from the Bay of Fundy I plan on installing whatever I can to reasonably prevent corrosion once the BMW is done

Would a brake rotor be ok? The BMW has a couple that I am not going to use I can shine them right up with a wire wheel and then give it a try.

A buddy of mine has one of those on his bio-consuming caddy and he runs his in the in winter here milwaukee! He just bought the truck a year ago! so it might be awhile before it might show something? or not? I'll keep you guys posted if it works or not!
