n/a head - turbo head differences - comparisons..

Besides the valves being different, what else is different for a n/a head and a turbo head. Can I swap valves and use a n/a head on my turbo block? I just picked up a 1.6 that has only 100k on the factory rebuilt long block assembly...

I'm told the material the head is made out of it differant material not just the valve's and valve seats.
Depends on how hard you are gonna run it.

supposedly the hydraulic n/a heads are basically turbo (don't know the years that have it... but etka is showing the same part number.)
the valves may not be turbo though...

I'd be looking at running 15-18psi. Nothing huge. It's a solid lifter head. I think I can use it, just install the proper valve seats and valves.

Well won't wonders ever cease? I checked three part supplier databases.
Beck/Arnley and TRW show the same part numbers for intake and exhaust valves and seats for both CY and CR and JK engines.
The new engine I have was from a '81 Bunny, Engine was a longblock from VW Canada. Since it's a reman, it could be a JK as it has the 12mm head bolts.
My TD is a CY, so this may just work fine as is....
Opinions???

They probably only make the TD valves now as they stopped making NA engines. I'd order new valves if I were you then.

my dad has a na head on a td block, he put a td valves in it though, but he has no issues his car is 100% stock.

Yes, but as far as I can see, both the CY Turbo and the CR/JK N/a heads share the same part numbers. Now maybe they are substituting turbo valves in lieu of n/a valves. This would remain to be seen. Keep also in mind that they spec different part numbers for hydraulic heads... I have another head, I'll pull the valves out of that and compare. I have hunch I could run the head as is...

Hunches are 100% spot on. Found out new long block was installed in '88 and the part numbers are identical - E designation - Stamped '84 so the head is indeed a TD head. Time to pull the pan to check if the block is also a TD...

Heres something else I have been wondering about.
Can we use the hydro lifters in the solid head?
Maybe drill a oil supply hole for the lifters?
This would eliminate the need to plug the second return hole when using a hydro head on a solid block.
I have 2 cracked heads now, one from the precup to the intake valve (solid head) and the other has a cracked cam tower where the stud screws in (hydro head).
I still have one solid head here but really want a hydro head. Would have just bought one from Burn_your_money but I guess he is MIA.

It would cost more to do that than to get another head. NotoriousVr on the vortex has what you are looking for. It just needs one of the injector bosses to be welded, not a big thing, otherwise it's in good shape. I checked it out when I was over at his place picking up my cluster..

I asked that same question. Somebody said the solid and hydraulic lifters are different diameters and/or different heights.

You mean Itchyg60....
I've been interested in that head for a while now. but I also have a head that is from an 88 I believe, but I guess from what you're saying is that the later model heads have TD Valves and should run in a TD... correct?
if that's the case, I'll take this spare head out for some headwork

Yes, all heads it seems after 86 are the same. So yeah, clean the head surface with a good strong degreaser (if you're cheap like me, use Easy Off oven cleaner..) and inspect your head for prechamber cracks, if all good, then drop it off at a machinist and get it squared.

LOL I don't go on the computer for 36 hours and everyone assumes I just disappeared.

That's my old head... the first TD engine I ever bought. I bought it off RPM motors in Bolton IIRC
