Thanks, this is a great help...
No, I didn't mention it... always think everyone on 80-90 have syncros...?
Might be a possibility of a re-ring? took the head off last night, no cracks between the valves and the piston are in good nick, (100x's better than the JX) but a thick layer of "soot" on everything?? Really soft, wipes off clean with a finger... the intake valves have a build up of oil and crap on base of the stems but it's also soft and "fresh" and the stems are bright, no discolouration... Cylinders are pretty shiny...
Two of the head bolts were rusty?? not seen that before, (but it has been in a shed for over a year...) Gasket seemed all in one piece but a bit of water staining, underneath, around the pot with the rusty bolts. Found a piece of rubber, about 1 x half inch in one of the corner oil ports on the block?? Maybe a bit of sump gasket?? Haven't taken the sump off yet...
I want to keep the SB pump as the JX pump is on my other NA van (it's a bit sticky anyway and needs some attention so I think I'll leave it there for now...) I've still got the old CS pump, which I knackered trying to overhaul and seems to have run out of suck, so I've got all the bits... Tuning sounds good... I'll cross that bridge when it's all in and tickin'
The injectors on the JX are 201B and the SB ones are 201R... Can I mix and match?? (if some of 201R's are knacked)
So... time to go get black again... Thanks...
