1.6 TD Questions
« on: April 04, 2007, 08:52:59 am »
Hello,
I have some questions regarding my 1.6 TD.

1)I race with my friend three times.First time when we race my car is going well without no problems with second gear up to 80 kmh and third up to 120 kmh, but in the second race when i force my car to high rpm it looses about 25% at acceleration and stops accelerating at 60 kmh in second gear and at 100 kmg in third gear.I also noticed when this happens that the lamp for accumulator starts to blink. After that when i stop my car and it starts to shaken and runs at very very low rpm and sometimes it turns off. This is frequently happening when i drive uphill. Please help

Regarding performance...

2) Which air filter is better to use on 1.6 TD?
Standard air filter or K&N air filter...?

3) Which turbine is better to use on 1.6 TD?
KKK K14 or K24 or Garret T3.....?

Thank you very much and sorry for my writting mistakes since
im not so good in english.

I dont know about your first question...but for the other ones, you can use a K&N filter...it will let more air in, but it also lets more dirt in!!!!
I have been using K&N filters for about 4 years now without problems, I  have a green air filter for my diesel that im rebuilding...they are a lot better then K&N.
As for the turbo seeing as it is a 1.6TD you prolly have a k24 or a T3...and those are good for street use and you can get decent power out of it!!!!

Would this be symptomatic of water in the fuel?
his light starts to blink, and then the engine runs poorly.

that sounds like either too much water in the separator, or just low fuel...  remember that you can't really run these cars low on fuel like a gasser!!!  very bad for your pump.

Ditch the seperater, drain and clean the tank out and just drain your filter every 10k miles... Cars after 86 IIRC didn't even have the thing because they leaked, or cracked when the water in them froze in cold temps..

All of my mk2 TDs have had the water seperator, and I've owned maybe 10 of them?

You may just need to change your fuel fitler and possibly the strainer in your fuel tank.

At those RPMs I'm pretty sure you took it to redline which draws ALOT of fuel, you may have caused an air leak in the system somewhere. Check the clean line to the pump for bubbles. A clogged water seperator may cause air leaks, as would a clogged pickup in the tank.

It's infront of the PS rear wheel. It's a white box about 6X6.  You'll know it when you see it
