I am getting ready to fire my 1.6td up for the first time. Its freshly rebuilt and this is my first time messing with a diesel (I installed it in a toyota truck). I had Giles do up my IP. Are there any initial settings that I should start with? Do I just get it running then go from there?

if giles did it, it should be setup nicely, you should only need to maybe adjust your idle.  and make srue the ip has fuel in it before you start cranking

Assuming you used a dial gauge to time the pump by rotating it on its bracket (and have verified the cam and crank timing are correct at the same time), you're good.

It may help to start to take the OUT bolt off the top of the pump and fill the pump with clean diesel. Also, crack the fuel unions at the injectors and crank until the unions become wet with fuel. Then tighten and start!

Isn't there something about spinning the oil pump with a drill to pre-lube everything?

WHOO-HOO! It runs! Fired it up for a few minutes, I have to get it out of the garage so I can run it longer. There was no smoke but the fumes were pretty bad. It was running on jet fuel, I am use to the smell but my wife wasnt impressed. I even popped it in 'drive' but it didnt move, must need more trans fluid. Now I need to figure out how to tune this thing...
