FS: 1.6 Oil Pumps w/ 36mm gears (HD mech upgrade)
« on: January 24, 2007, 10:11:38 am »
Ok, So in light of "not high enough" oil pressure on my old Vanagon TD motor, I went searching for a solution.

This was news to me, but I'd guess most of you already know -  the 91 and newer oil pumps for hydraulic diesel motors are a direct bolt on HD upgrade for earlier hydraulic (smaller pump) and all mechanical motors.

I know I can't be the only one who gets to see the .3 bar idiot light come on with very hot oil at idle - and my motor is pretty fresh too.

So this is the solution. This pump has 36 mm gears as opposed to the older ones (significantly shorter) for higher pressure (with the added oil pressure loss from the squirters and  turbo circuit your head will thank you)

Anyway, I'd be glad to do em for $100 USD shipped in the US, a bit more to Canadia. I wasn't able to find any under $150 + shipping so this is a pretty good deal IMO.  BTW part # is 028 115 105 G

Will those fit the Audi 2.0s?

Actually, come to think of it, I don't know what the stock size is on the Audi engines...

you mean 5 cyl? I don't think it's the same sump, they use a chain that drives off the crank I believe.

The older pumps had  30mm gears and the newer pump is a good upgrade, if for no other reason than it shuts noisy lifters up on cold mornings.
The number you quoted translates into $76 CDN at the local stealership,BTW.

Holy crap.. This must be the same pump they use on the 1.9 TD too then, the only way it's that cheap is market popularity..
Well anyway, still for sale in USA :)

Like I said, it`s a good swap for colder climates(-42C here every now and again). I tried using a 16V pump a long time ago but found out that the shafts were splined differently THAT was an expensive mistake,..

Aside from the spline issue, there's no lubrication through the shaft to the vacuum pump (on the gasser oil pumps).

I did this on the old IDI TD that I had built up... was a mechanical TD, the 36mm pump is a common upgrade for those with gas 1.8's looking to up their oil pressure as well. The smaller pumps are 30mm gears...  It takes the 2.0 16v's oil pump and utilizes it for those particular cars...
A nice upgrade.

You actually can find them at autohaus az for around 65.00 prior to shipping (300 list), and through germanautoparts.com  for 87.00 or so prior to shipping.

Def worth the upgrade :)

I have a '91 1.6TD, is this a good upgrade for me? If so what am I looking for, what comes with this pump?

your car already has this pump.. Also, as was noted, you may be able to get it cheaper from one of the other vendors mentioned here :) just make sure the part number begins with 028 115 105 G and not 068 115 105 NA

Like I said, I'd be glad to sell them for 100 shipped :) I really think the prices mentioned earlier must have been for the 068 #... I guess I have to assume the one on GAP doesn't have the holes drilled in the shaft to lubricate the vane style vacuum pump, that is (I'm pretty certain, a gasser pump only)..
I think an email to them might be in order..

mikey...

Yes...def...maybe I mislead in what I was posting. I'm sorry. Def. go with the diesel specific pump... I put the gas one up there for those that might have gassers around and wanted to pump up their oil pressure as well...enhance citing the gasser pump specifically as well. I'm sure you could mod the gasser pump to maybe work....but its not worth the effort in the difference of price between the HD diesel pumps you can get for 100shipped and what they want for the 36mm gasser oil pumps.

Def. a nice price guys, and nice upgrade. Thought I'd provide the other for those with gassers out there that haven't had the chance to be converted yet! :)

Thanks Joe.. and no worries!

Yes, you can make the gas pump fit if you drill the shaft longitudinally, but it's a fat pain in the ass because it's hardened. Unless you have a drill press and some serious bits, you are going to be there a while..

upgraded oilpumps
« Reply #14 on: January 25, 2007, 04:03:19 pm »
Myke W,
Are these oil pumps made in Germany? I purchased a higher volume oil pump from the Parts Place Inc. and it turned out to be one made in China( the three words I hate the most) . It was inferior looking from a quality standpoint -looked like the machining was done on a hobby lathe. Then they charged me a restocking fee when I returned it-I will never buy a thing from those clowns again.
                                                                            Thanx,
                                                                             Pete
