If I was selling it....84 Quantum TD
« on: January 23, 2007, 05:50:57 pm »
Well, I have an 84 Quantum TD, which I love. Though, I would love more to have a Quantum Syncro. The car is in overall decent shape. All maintenance records are there, CA registration, etc. The TD runs well, doesn't smoke. The paint is somewhat faded, and the interior is less that great. I replaced the driver's side fender after a run-in with a shopping cart (don't ask) and it is still matte black. I change the oil and filter regularly, along with the fuel filter. And, it has tires with about 1k miles all around. I saw another Quantum TD on here a while back that was asking $5000-but it was in pristine condition. So, make me an offer (you tell me, I'm expecting less than $1800, or so). And again, I'm not officially selling the car at the moment, but it would definetely encourage me too if I had someone interested that I know would appreciate it.

Well, if you weren't on the other side of the country from me and the Quantum were a stickshift, I'd make you a very serious offer on it...

Why not get a Syncro and drop your TD into it?
That'll be MY next project if I don't do a diesel syncro westy first.

You'd  have to hop up the 1.6 to get the Syncro rolling. And the gearing in the Syncro is such that at 60 mph you're doing a screaming 3k RPM.

Not to mention needing an adapter plate to go from the 4-cylinder 1.6 pattern to the 5-cylinder pattern, figuring out where to move your mounting points, and a few other small fitment issues.

I might be interested, and I'm not that far.
I would mostly want it for parts for my Dasher

How many miles?
Manual or automatic?

Any new parts?
Any problems with the engine?

Is it the sedan or the station wagon you might be selling? I am looking for a TD, 5 spd station wagon.

Thanks for the interest guys,
I just went out and cleaned the car to take some pics, but then I came inside to get the camera and it started pouring rain.... So, heres some details about the car while I wait for the rain to stop:
-171,000 miles
-sedan
-thermostat, thermoswitch, tires, intake manifold and valve cover gaskets, and the air filter have been replaced within the past year
-car starts on the first crank every time, but on a cold start will grog on three cylinders for less than ten seconds, and then idle fine(i just haven't got around to doing the glow plugs)
-no performance mods
-only visible smoke occurs under hard uphill acceleration(and this is only small and grey; no black clouds here)
-CY engine code, 9Q tranny, LA8Y paint(a truly hideous bronze)
-electric windows(although the two rear windows don't work)
-manual tranny(doesn't grind)
-tachometer and upshift light don't work
-glow plug light doesn't work-but you can time the starting by listening to a "click" that sounds when they are hot
-matte black driver's side fender
-this car is basically a tank; its slow, pretty ugly, reliable, and has a beastly nature in general

i have a quantum TD a/c condensor thats in really nice shape here if you want it for your car (though this is a for sale thread for your car...or feeler rather), but if you (or anyone else that has a quantum) want it...its yours FREE, just pay shipping from me to you. I just haven't been able to throw it away since its in such nice shape and probably hard to find elsewhere...

Its from a TD quantum that I parted and regret doing so do this day...got the car for $75.00 complete, etc. parted it all out!
