Hi i'm new to the forum - be gentle!
« on: November 15, 2006, 12:48:08 pm »
Just thought i'd say hi! Was sent here by one of my other forum friends (I normally reside on clubpolo - i'm one of the founding members and my other VW is a G40 pushing 150bhp or so - when its running!)

After having a brief brush with a Fiat Punto 1.9 Jtd (wifes car - 4 weeks old - rain + negative cambre + *** tyres + twisted chassis = whiplash & a seriously mangled Punto) I picked a GTD out of the clubpolo for sale section last November and drove down to Manchest to collect it.

Paid £1200 for it - Montana Green, G60 interior, electric windows all round and 103,000 miles on the clock.

I've make a few mods so far:-

15" G60 steels
60mm drop
MP3/CD player

I've now got 129,000 miles on the clock and other than oil and filter changes it hasnt required anything (yes that 26,000 miles in 12 months!)

Here is what it looks like at the moment

I love the colour and 51mpg average at a 75mph-ish run to and from work - its only let me down once and that was a snapped alternator belt!

Got a load of parts saved up to do some work over the christmas / new year:
New Alternator (rev counter sender is acting up!)
New Starter (startes on 3rd try every time)
New Clutch kit (release bearing damaged by diesel leak into gearbox casing)
New oil/water cooler unit ( the oil is getting into the water a little and making a black foam in the expansion bottle - its not the head gasket as its done this since before i bought it)
New front bumper & drivers wing (got clipped by a taxi)
Passat Headlights along with Jetta grill
Jetex Stainless steel exhaust
Jetex air filter & drilled airbox
American Spec Heater controls / side markers / number plates
And a few other tweeks!

Once i'm happy with everything else then i'll be on here looking on how to get a bit more power out of it (SB engine)

Scirocco II headlights???   ;)

Nice car, welcome to the forum.  That 150hp Polo must be a blast.  Care to post a pic or two of it?  I LOVE the Polo (even the new ones) but alas they are just a dream for me over here in the States.  :(

Do you need inners and outers? I should have a couple of good pairs about!

The G40 is a 1991 spec factory model - 1272cc with a G-Lader charger - std is 113bhp which makes a fun car - 150bhp is just nuts

Yes the tyres are slightly streteched - 165/50/15's on 7x15 rims!

It does a 14.9 sec 1/4 and tops out at about 161mph! (11mpg!) Porsche Boxsters and Chrysler Crossfires are loads of fun!

£1000's of pounds worth or chassis and tuning mods along with full euro styling - Just the charger keeps eating oil seals!

Nice vehicles :)  There is something to be said for running two older vehicles for half the price of a new one.  Kinda makes me wish I got a MK II or III and restored it instead of the car I have now.
Waiting for a bigger better diesel to come along.

I've only ever had 2 newer cars - 1 was a Punto which lasted a 4 weeks. My other one was a show winning mk4 polo - Euro'd before it was the in style!

I sold the red Polo when i found out my wife was Pregnant -it was stolen from its new owner and used as a getaway car at a Post Office Robbery in Manchester!

Next car was a very Rare Oettinger tuned Audi 100 Avant Quattro - Bored out 2.1 upto 2.5 stage 3 head wild cams and 194bhp and 226lb/ft torque with no turbo - fitted a set of polished Porsche wheels - then sold it as it only did 16mpg!

Swopped it for a Scirocco Scala 1.8i

I love older Dubs!
