1.9td head on a 1.6td??
« on: October 27, 2006, 04:51:25 pm »
Will a AAZ 1.9 Cylinder head bolt right on my 1.6 Hydraulic shortblock?
Is it worth it? I need a new head and figured I would upgrade for about the same cost.

My head has never been surfaced and it is flat, but the Machine shop told me that the cracks between the valves leak into the cooling passages, it sounds like it is going to cost me around $100 per hole to weld the cracks. I just want to do a budget repair for now so is their a place to get a rebuilt head for cheaper than fixing mine? I have seen a few rebulders online like Alabama Cylinder Head and a few others that have reasonable prices...........Any input?

Get a late mk2 head and swap all your valves etc into the new head (whatever is good anyways) Apparently the Na and TD heads are the same, only the vavles are differant. This would probably be the cheapest way to do it. Youcan rebuild your head yourself, doesn't seem too hard

You can't get new castings like that for a Hydraulic head as far as I know.

1.9 head is kind of for a fair weather engine. there is lots of different stories between the combos.cold starting seems to be the biggest whoooooooooor of a problem and seems to smoke alot. the 1.6 head would be the best way to go for now.
