Glow Plug Fusable Link Alternative ? Help
«

I remember reading on here about some one using a breaker switch in place of the thin metal fusable link for the glow plugs. Can this be safely done? What size breaker would be used? amps? Thanks

I believe the fuse strip on my TD is 50 amps, but I'm not sure if they're all the same from model to model. I think I paid about a $1 each for the fuses that I got locally... Are you having issues with that fuse blowing?

today was the first time the fuse wnt bad on me. I was considering alternatives because my VW shop is closed on mondays and i thought it would be cool to be able to just reset it if it happened again.
So is 50 amps what would be used?

Stereo shops should have HD resetable breakers.I think it's overkill though.it's so easy to change, just carry a spare or two.
A piece of 14-16 ga wire can be used in a pinch. You can even jump it with anything metal, just be prepared if there is a short,it may get hot.

.. and if your shop runs out of 50 amp ones, they'll likely have 80 amp ones too to get you out of a spot. Just like carrying a spare bulb or fusebox fuse with you. Don't stress or twist it when installing and it'll last for years.
