10mm tdi Pump head Timing plug, can't set timing
« on: October 02, 2006, 08:01:20 pm »
I just swapped in a 10mm tdi pump head and the timing plug hole is bigger than the standard 9mm idi pump head timing plugs. I can't set the injection timing because the adapter for my dial indicator is to small.  I know this issue must have come up before...is there a threaded bushing adapter for the bigger tdi pump heads?

my  pump guy took the stock center thingee  that bolts in the pump head from my 9mm head and transferred it to the 12mm head
the piece im talking about is the bigger piece that the little bolt threads into that you remove to check the timing
hope i didnt confuse you
he asked me"hey do i need to swap this so you can set your timing with the vw guage? "i said hell yes, thank you

My timing set has adapters for both the IDI and TDI pump heads.
Im fairly sure the thread of the TDI is M10x1 as I made a home brew adapter from a brake union., a bit of brake pipe and a bit of welding rod! Not pretty but worked until my new set came!

I know its not the best way of doing this,However if you have someone holding the gage/adapter into the pump then you don't need to worry about the bigger thread dia.I've done this myself before its not fun but will work in a pinch

I seem to remember there being an issue with swaping the different style cap's that thread into the head.I just recall that swaping them wasn't an option when I ran into the same issue??
