How's it going? First of all, I am new to these forums but have been reading over alot of the threads over the past hour or so and it seems like Ive come to the right place for info.

Anyay, back to topic, I live in the states and have a source for the AAZ motor and I wanted to know if anyone could share their experiences in modifying these?

Anyone know what kind of torque I could expect after building one up and what the best mods are? Considering this is an out of country motor I really dont know much about it and I really want to make sure this is a good decision, any help would be apreciated.

BTW - this will be going in my 82 Caddy. Anyone know of any clearance or mounting related issues when installing one into an A1??

it fits right into the mk1, you just need the mk1 motor mounts.

For the mods, you can start by putting the 1.6TD boost pin in the pump, (from MK2 1.6Turbo diesel models), you can also make a boost bleed, which will allow you to set the PSI you want the turbo to shoot into the intake, then you have to adjust the fueling to have enought with the boost you have set.

Those are the basic modifications that you should do on an AAZ engine.

Next step, the intercooler... Try to find a good intercooler to fit on your engine, so you can cool the air flowing into your intake.

After those mods, its probably time to upgrade the pump head diameter... Stock you've got a 9mm head, that you can replace by a 10,11 or even 12 mm...

Actually I'm running my 305 000 km engine with a TDI 2001 intercooler side mounted and 20 PSI in the intake, i see smoke behind the car when i hit the pedal to the metal, which means he has a little bit too much fuel, but it's ok... I've changed my head pump for a 10mm, and just to give you a hint on how it does, I've run a 16.6 sec at a 1/4 mile on september 15th, and the car wasn't as powerful as it can be late nights, when it's colder outside :wink: :twisted:

great, thanks, this is what I hear from the person selling it but I just wanted to make sure from people who have more experience with it....

Thanks for the tips, I am currently looking into a FMIC, I'll try to find a 1.6td in a yard somewhere (that won't be easy though

) and as far as the pump head, where should I send the pump too? Anyone know of any places within the US that I could send mine too? How much does that typically cost???

Hi,look at my post "mk1 now turbo diesel" its a few down the list,mine is a AAZ with a t3 garrett on off a 1.6TD i have modified the boost pin but not driven it yet :cry:

Thanks, I read your thread, seems like the more I read the more questions I have though :lol: :evil: I'm still unsure on whats going on with larger injection pump heads and the pin makes it seem all the more technical......totally different worl than gassers but I'm glad I'm making the switch. I just have to start at level 0 now.............
