hi guys
just wondered if anybody could throw some light on this for me, apart from my 3 caddys!! i have just dragged my old clipper cab out and have converted it from 1.6 petrol auto to 1.6 td 5 speed, now i know the cab is about 100kg heavyer than a normall hatch golf as all the extra strength underneath weighs a bit but the problem i,m having is when it had the standard petrol engine in it sat a normall ride height on standard springs now i have the td engine in it she,s sitting 2" lower on the front! i thought the diesel engine maybe heavyer but the 5 speed manual weighs lot less than the old auto i ripped out so i thought this would balance out..............WRONG!!!!!!!!!!
just wondered if anybody could shine some light on this.............................................. .................................................. .............................alex

lower is better, i have no clue why, but for some reason the diesels are heavier, dunno why.

you'll need to buy some stiffer uprated springs, or suspension kit. or coilovers, then you can adjust the rideheight to suit, or if you want to get seriously trick maybe air ride?
yeah the diesel engines do seem to be fairly hefty, I'm sure I read somewhere that the newer 1.9 pd tdis weigh as much as a VR6!?
I wonder does anyone have the actual wieght figures for the various diesel engines? and comparisons to other engines would be pretty interesting

I am pretty sure that the 1.9 ALH TDI block that I shipped out weighed in at like 95 lbs I think, just food for thought

a 1.6NA with oil, alternator, water pump, manifolds, injection pump, but no coolant weighs 250lbs. That's without the tranny, which weighs 60-75

Surprisingly, when I did my gas---> diesel swap, the ride height stayed the same.

They are build to survive much high peak cylinder pressures, so the pistons have a heck of a lot more metal in them. The block is also strengthened. I think the crank and conrods are also heavier, not sure though.

Same deal, went to a Patec cup kit, front seams really low, and only have a 1.6D, may have to get VR6 coils when I do my 1.9TD transplant later.
Will keep researching this and post when I have more info.
Thanks,
Hugh
