which head gasket? Help please
« on: September 14, 2006, 01:31:52 pm »
'94 1.9 idi, no air, manual trans.
I need the appropriate head gasket . My parts guy says he has listings for three of them which one do I need? the options are 1 hole, 2 hole or 3 hole. The # of holes corelates the the thickness of the hg.
Any quick help is greatly appreciated.
Out.

I'm not sure about the 1.9 but on my 1.6 I can look between #2 and #3 cylinder and there is a piece of the head gasket sticking out towards the front of the car. That's where the holes (or notches on some) are. Get one with the same # of holes.

it has to do with piston protrusion.  you have to measure it, and get the appropriate thickness hg.  You can go with a 3 notch, but it will be a bit hard starting it in the winter if it actually needs a 2, or even 1.

do a search on notches, and maybe someone has already posted the protrusion measurements and the hg notch required for them.
